There are plenty of valid reasons why a 17 y.o. might be home alone.
Heck, many of us in the neighborhood of my youth were "latchkey kids" from when we were pretty young with both parents working.
The girl does need some basic instruction on securely locking the doors and windows in the residence.

Wonder when the authorities will charge Pops with allowing a minor to possess a handgun without supervision/presence...

Janet (Waco) Reno was actually Bill Clinton’s third choice. His first choice was Zoë Baird, who had a foreign nanny and did not pay the taxes. He then nominated Kimba Wood, who also had a “Zoë Baird problem” with a foreign nanny.

After both Baird and Wood withdrew, he nominated Janet Reno.

I won twenty bucks from a co-worker when I gave him 5/1 odds that the third AG nominee would be a white woman. He thought it was easy money! I, OTOH, knew that Clinton was certain to choose a nominee that checked the same preference boxes as the two who had already been rejected.

Don’t you have to do a state required background check before transferring a firearm to another person? Dad could be in serious trouble here.

Generally speaking, in most states, you need some sort of ticket to buy one, you need a permit to carry one but a firearm that is in the home and properly secured may be used for self defense by any occupant who has a legal right to be there.

1.Where was Dad that she had to talk to him on the phone?

From the article.

“Her parents and boyfriend just happened to be watching the Spokane, WA based KHQ morning show on TV, and saw a report that there was a car thief in the area. They told Kimber and left for work.”

Lots of holes here.

Why is the girl alone? Doesn’t live with her parents? Were they on vacation? Boyfriend calls parents who are not where his girlfriend is?

Looking back, she probably would have been a bette bet than Reno.

And perhaps 80+ innocents would not have been incinerated alive....

“Unfortunately, now one criminal knows where he can find a gun and a 17 yr old woman.”

And get shot in the face.
