Hunting a Killer: Sex, Drugs and the Return of Syphilis
NY Times ^ | August 24, 2017 | Jan Hoffman

Posted on 08/24/2017 11:20:34 AM PDT by C19fan

For months, health officials in this socially conservative state capital have been staggered by a fast-spreading outbreak of a disease that, for nearly two decades, was considered all but extinguished.

Syphilis, the deadly sexually transmitted infection that can lead to blindness, paralysis and dementia, is returning here and around the country, another consequence of the heroin and methamphetamine epidemics, as users trade sex for drugs.

NY Times so surprised syphilis is spread in a “socially conservative state.”

FYI - There is NO “social conservatism” among the people spreading it - homosexuals and drug users.

a lifetime with Mercury

Today, there are antibiotics. Unfortunately, they don't always work.

Best to avoid the sorts of behavior that lead to syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, HPV infection, and similar diseases.

Most Syphilis is spread and received by turd burgling butt pirates, so most of us here are completely safe, except for the FReeper whose oral surgeon is a pole smoking flamer.

That FReeper is not safe.

Meanwhile, the Obamacare-related public health priority is to encourage vastly more women to get themselves temporarily or permanently sterilized with long-term hormonal contraceptives: injectables, implants, patches, and vaginal insertions.

These actually enhance the transmission of viral and bacterial pathogens.

More disease. Lots more disease. That's Public Health!

You do have a rather colorful way with words.

Time to bring back legally enforced morality before one of these STD’s mutates and becomes transmissible by air, then proceeds to make the Black Death look like a round of colds at a playdate.

These actually enhance the transmission of viral and bacterial pathogens.

I'm curious as to how that works (other than encouraging more frequent casual intercourse with strangers). Have you any links to research on the topic?

As noted in another post, much of the increase in VD is among male sodomites. I don't think they're dosing themselves with hormonal contraceptives. They're simply engaged in conduct that's inherently unsafe, unsanitary, and unhealthful.

VD used to be tracked by CDC. They’d identify someone and follow their sexual partners and treat everyone. Didn’t eliminate it, but kept in under control. The activists in the homosexual movement successfully eliminated this kind of tracking. Don’t want to stigmatize those who engage in abnormal behavior (in 1968 that is what it was called in the psychological field)that spreads it, you know. Heterosexuals pass it around too, but are no longer tracked, nor are drug users. We reap what we sow.

A little late with this bulletin.

Palm Springs, Calif, has been a homosexual gathering spot for decades. They reported some years ago a raging syphilis epidemic.

Of course, negative news about homos is not treated with much enthusiasm byt the liberal media.

Hormonal contraception enhances risk of STD's (first articles I found) https://www.guttmacher.org/journals/ipsrh/2002/03/womens-susceptibility-some-stds-affected-hormonal-method-use

High-dose oral contraceptives speed replication of AIDS virus

https://academic.oup.com/cid/article/45/3/360/359561/The-Influence-of-Hormonal-Contraceptive-Use-on-HIV

There's lots more. Google keywords, for instance

hormonal risk STDs

That's clilical stuff. Plus, behaviorally, users of long-term contraceptives have many more partners and sexual encounters.

Bottom line: hormonal contraceptives have a multiplier effect on STDs

Syphilis doesn’t discriminate among races, colors or creeds but I’ll bet a dollar to a doughnut that liberals contract it from other liberals more than conservatives do from other conservatives or liberals.

Do you have any pictures of Bill Clinton wearing a bath robe while he is fishing in his swimming pool. That is what Syphilis did to Al Capone.
