Why a Hollywood boycott would have minimal impact on box office sales (Vanity)

There has been a lot of discussion about the decline in domestic box office ticket sales, and what impact a boycott would have. Based on these statistics provided by the MPAA, it would appear that conservatives may not make up a majority of moviegoers. These are some of the stats provided by the MPAA:

2016 Domestic Box Office:

40% of tickets were purchased by moviegoers under the age of 25.

64% of tickets were purchased by moviegoers under the age of 40.

Only 51% of tickets were purchased by Caucasians

21% of tickets were purchased by Hispanics.

14% were purchased by African Americans.

The remaining 14% of tickets were purchased by Asians and other minorities.

Ticket sales were split 50/50 between men and women.

Canadian ticket sales are included in domestic box office totals, increasing the overall domestic ticket sales by millions.

So based on these statistics, the moviegoing audience is far less conservative than NFL fans. Hollywood is clearly catering to the under 25 crowd domestically (and international audiences). These audiences purchase tickets to comic book movies, blockbuster franchises, and horror movies in droves.

Hollywood is not making movies that would really appeal to older, conservative viewers. So while some may be boycotting, Hollywood simply isn't making that many movies that appeal to audiences over the age of 40.

Comic book movies, blockbuster franchises, and horror movies make the overwhelming majority of box office receipts. If Hollywood goes down, it won't be a boycott that does it, but it will be when the superhero bubble bursts and audiences (both domestically and overseas) tire of franchises.

If this does happen, politics won't officially be what destroyed Hollywood, but globalism certainly will be. The need to make films that appeal to all audiences, which is the reason so many films are so boring and unoriginal will be the cause of Hollywood's demise.

How much longer will the superhero and blockbuster craze be able to sustain the Hollywood box office?

Disney will kill off the star wars franchise real soon.

Hollywood’s big bank comes from the sale and stream or licensed broadcast of material long after it has left the theaters. 90 years of “product” under copyright on tv, cable, netflix, hulu, amazon prime, DVD, blu-ray, etc.

They are protected from market forces on theatrical failures because of legacy hits and pay-tv channels (the Batman with nipples travesty aired plenty of times on Time-Warner HBO).

They will continue to fund leftist tripe that they know will “tank” because the messaging is important to them. And if it can be pitched as a “historical drama” or “adaptation” then you can expect it to be shown repeatedly in classrooms somewhere down the line.

Wanna boycott? Encourage bootleg. Why would we pay to be proselytized? That is like a muslim demanding you pay if you wanted to hear what they plot on the infidels.

The RIAA is a fraud.

Honey, there aren’t any good movies for the kids. They preach against our values. Let’s do something else.

They seem to NEVER run out of the damn things.

They make one for a single character....then for a team of single characters...THEN one for teams of characters against teams of other characters...

THEN THEY REBOOT one of the characters with a new actor, and then they make prequels, and sequels. Then the movies where the good guy turns into a bad guy!

Marvel an DC must have dozens of minor characters to tap.

Hollywood makes movies primarily for foreign audiences.

I torrent EVERYTHING that I watch. TV, and movies.

No ads, no cable subscription, no money going from me to them. Do not care at all.

These are current stats, they lost the majority of conservative audiences a long time ago.

No, but it will have an effect on your sanity.....
Besides, every movie you ever need was made before 2000 (except “The Hobbit” trilogy”)....

Yup, exactly. That’s why so many people in Hollywood don’t seem concerned about alienating conservative audiences.

Agreed. They’re running it into the ground. Star Wars movies used to be every 3 years, and then 10+ years between trilogies.

And it’s amazing that these movies do so well. Three Spiderman actors in 10 years, and it still made a fortune.

Those demographics tell a tale

Hollywood is not always driven by money....that’s a canard

Look at al the bash Bush and an I war movies the Weinsteins made and Spielberg contributed to

All losers

But they kept making them

Hey no anti war movies for Obama

Trump should stop a subsidy of Hollywood, by ordering the FBI agents assigned to copyright violations reassigned elsewhere. Like investigating violations of federal law associated with harboring illegal aliens.

I don’t go to movies. Those films of true artistic note may work themselves to me eventually.

The low percentages for older voters and for Caucasian voters, compared to their percentage of the population is what should be affecting Hollywood. It’s been a few years that there have been many movies that appealed to old white folks, who grew up going to the movies on a regular basis. Retired people would go to a lot of movies if there were ones worth seeing.

Get organized and target just ONE movie. If conservatives across the nation pick one movie and stay home that movie WILL lose money. Do this a couple times and the studios will be forced to take action or take a chance of losing tens of millions of dollars.

I like my life not paying attention to Hollywoodland. Whenever the conversation drifts into the latest action movie or remake of Roots, I get to excuse myself and am not bothered by the vapidness of the situation.
