Three Dolphins kneel and Saints link arms as a new day of NFL anthem protests begin (London game)
Washington Post ^ | October 1 at 10:20 AM | Cindy Boren

Against the backdrop of President Trump’s latest tweet urging NFL players to stand for the national anthem, three members of the Miami Dolphins took a knee during the national anthem and the New Orleans Saints knelt, then rose to their feet before Sunday morning’s game in London’s Wembley Stadium.

The Saints, as quarterback Drew Brees had promised in a tweet, emulated the Dallas Cowboys, who last week took a knee with owner Jerry Jones, then stood for the anthem. “As a way to show respect to all, our #Saints team will kneel in solidarity prior to the national anthem & stand together during the anthem.”

The Saints linked arms, with Adrian Peterson holding his hands in prayer. On the other sideline Julius Thomas, Michael Thomas and Kenny Stills chose to kneel. Dolphins players did not link arms as so many others teams have done. Many players on both sides placed their hands over their hearts.

A little over 24 hours earlier, President Trump had tweeted at NFL players over the anthem, writing: “Very important that NFL players STAND tomorrow, and always, for the playing of our National Anthem. Respect our Flag and our Country!”

Fox Sports showed the anthem, sung by Darius Rucker, although it was unclear whether the network would do the same for its 1 p.m. EDT kickoffs. Last week, Sports President Eric Shanks had indicated the network would revert to the usual practice of selling that time to advertisers. The anthem is typically only shown on telecasts on the Thursday night kickoff game and before the Super Bowl.

The business formula is so simple -

Continuing protests = declining TV viewership = eventual pay cuts for EVERYONE (players, staff, and Media personnel)

Trump is a businessman, he can understand this .... why can’t NFL owners, executives and Media people get it??

#voluntarysuicide

(BTW, I just pray that ESPN or somebody is doing one of those lockerroom documentaries and the cameras are rolling when the players get the news that they’re going to have to take a 20% pay cut .... that would be beautiful, and hilarious, to watch ....)

None. Somebody probably told them the song was about Obama.”

Sunday morning’s game in London’s Wembley Stadium.

I see the NFL is continuing its self-destruction with the insults to the flag and the national anthem - even overseas. Pretty soon they'll be as relevant as the Emmys.

And that doesn't even get into the NFL HQ marketing department insanity that takes away games from American football fans to instead hold them in a London soccer stadium.

Let them take a knee. We will see where we really stand as a society.

Yup, I remember when NFL international games were limited to the preseason not that long ago (because teams didn’t want to give up home games). Now there are 5 international games scheduled for the 2017 regular season (4 in London and 1 in Mexico City).

"I was a Saints fan for 40 years"

Over 45 year Saints fan here. I wore a paper bag over my head in the dome for The Aints! As far as I am concerned, they can play in the middle of I-10 and I would not stop to back over them!
I bought NFL & Saints merchandise every Christmas, some memento or jersey....every year. Not any more. These players spit on every veteran who has ever fought for this country.
I am incensed that they continue this! My country means more to me than a sport and as far as I am concerned, the geese that sat on a golden egg can pound sand! Don't think I am just pissed now and will come back NFL...because you are not the only game in town. I would rather clean in a Wal Mart bathroom stall than EVER EVER allow the NFL to darken my door again!

I am PROUDLY NFL free!!!

Dumb doesn’t quite say it. Should just stand back and let the NFL collapse on itself. Firing some of these thugs might save the NFL and they don’t deserve to be saved.

Been a Dolphin fan for decades.
As much because of their original owner, Joe Robby.
He wasn’t some fabolously rich guy.
Just a hard worker who got the team, built his own stadium.
Then his family had to sell it all due to the death tax.
Well miami dolphins, eat pooh boys, i’m done with your sorry ungreatful asses.

It’s the thuggery that I’m sick of. Kids looks up to this and emulate it. Every week an NFL players is arrested with domestic violence being the most common charge. I’m just sick of these thugs having their arses kissed. What is so great about covering your body in tattoos and going around acting like a gangsta? This is what they are pushing on kids and I’m finished with it.

Been a fan since before their perfect season. They are dead to me. Goodbye NFL (always played fantasy football until this year).

I hope the game ends in a 0-0 tie. (not up on the rules - last I knew, regular season games could end in a tie).

” Not sure 3 weeks of no kneeling would do it.”

I know. Because even if they stop kneeling, it won’t be because they suddenly valued our nation and our veterans.

It would be because they thought it wasn’t paying off.

They are still stinking traitors.

I can go with maybe a player who is a Jehovah’s Witness or a Mennonite or something, who have a genuine conscience that they can’t do a pledge. I don’t agree with them, but I don’t think they are hating on America or the military.

But this is not the current situation. These people hate America; hate our history; our President; hate our military; and disrespect and dismiss the sacrifices of current and former vets.
