“They re selected for their talent.”

That’s what they WANT you to believe!

They’re selected because it costs the owners far less money to sign top-notch Caribbean talent at very young ages than it does to sign top-notch American talent. It’s always about the bottom line.

The only way for the Dodgers to win is to have one of the Astros best players removed. Not happening.

>>>I’m more annoyed with all the players with the ZZ Top beards<<<

They are more like Duck Dynasty Beards than ZZ Top Beards.

“The situation that I’m appalled with is the NFL owner being chastised for saying “the inmates are running the asylum”. These loudmouths who are appalled by that can’t handle analogies. They can’t voice their objections with humor and a spirit of cooperation. It’s about a diminishment of the thought process.”

We are living in this country under not just a Deep State dictatorship in the Federal government, but a cultural dictatorship of the mind. Thought processes will be diminished under such a dictatorship.

Back when I played, doing something silly like that in the dugout where the other team could see it would be squelched immediately by coaches and teammates...not because it is racist but because you just don’t taunt your opponents when you have them on the ropes. Let sleeping dogs lie. Don’t give them any more incentive to come back than they already have.

That was back in the days when we had common sense which sadly is not so common in our day.

Maybe it’s a Samson-like thing for him. As long as he plays as well as he does he can wear his hair anyway he likes IMHO.

I wouldn’t speak too soon...just sayin’ ;-)

Any suspension, under the CBA, would have to allow for an appeal, which would happen in New York and isn’t going to occur in the next five days. It would end up being instituted at the beginning of next season, it wouldn’t happen in the Series - if Gurriel didn’t get an appeal, he and the Astros could file a grievance...actually the union would as well, and any attempted suspension would be stayed by an administrative judge.

I’m not saying a suspension is warranted, I don’t think it is really. Gurriel is probably catching a sh*tload from his teammates and the coaches right now. You simply don’t taunt the other team like that in any way. When he gets to the plate today, he’d better be ready to bail, because I think he might see a hard one coming very high and very inside. That’s how these things are handled.

I was in pro sports a year and have had friends there. You can delude yourself all you want with anecdotes. In fact, please provide me evidence that the best talent is not selected and show pattern. Sports is a business and the skills are clearly displayed. If you show a practice of hiring less than the best, it will be know immediately. look at the drafts scrutinized by sports writers and millions of fans. The summer camps re in the news everyday. You may have an exceptional, but sports are the cleanses hire for merit system I know.

On a similar note, I wonder if James Caan will have to apologize for doing something similar in this scene from the Howard Hawks Western “El Dorado” with John Wayne and Robert Mitchum that was made over a half-century ago:

Eddie Murphy did a routine how people would bust on Chinese waiters at the restaurant, and then back in kitchen...”Ha ha very funny.....very funny.....make special Won Ton Soup just for you.” -

we have a mentally disturbed Cuban on our team who licks his bat (Puig)...

Exactly! Don't forget the little temper tantrum that Punky Puig pulled in game 2 ON THE FIELD when he didn't catch the ball. A real role model for the kids watching, isn't he???

Hispanics are more willing than suburban American youth (and especially ghetto dwellers) to put in three to six or more years in minor league towns making peanuts.

Best money attracts best talent. Domincan Republic and Venezuela aren’t real good places for a young guy to make a living. The Hispanic invasion of MLB has been going on since the ‘50s.

When all MLB players had low salaries, some would jump to the Mexican League.

It’s another reason that now a lot of the big European soccer clubs, have a bunch of players from Africa on them.

Yep. And with the new bigger money in the American MLS, Americans who had played in Europe are trending back to the States.

Oh come on. He’s Cuban. How could he know it’s only permissible to be racist to whitey?

I think you’re wrong. I think pro ball players are EXPECTED to taunt the opposing team. He merely made a mistake in his choice of gesture, and in Cuba it’s probably not such a big deal as here. Go figure, in Cuba you can make slanty eyes, here it’s the end of the fricken’ world.
