In CFB every team has vulnerability. Bama’s was lack of adversity all season long. If this had happened 4 or 5 weeks ago it would have been forgotten.

Without a Championship of Champions this is a fake playoff for ESPN to decide. This is a beauty contest being sold as a playoff. Take the Big 5 Conferences and add 3 other Champions.

the only colleges allowed into the college playoffs should have a 75% or better graduation rate among their revenue sport scholarships

You will have to justify that.

Somebody with an SAT score of 800 cannot attain a legitimate bachelors degree. And majoring in football is a perfectly legitimate choice for a kid with talent, an IQ of 85, an aggression index off the charts, and few other choices.

Making all of these colleges falsify the transcripts of all the FBS players who fit this description so you can feel good about graduation rates is not right.

End the charade. Let scholarship football players play the football they are there to play, and forget the phony classes.

Thats not to say a scholarship athlete CANT do college level work, some of them can, and do. No problem with that.

If you make an 8 team tourney, every D1 team in America would have a chance at the start of the season. Every Conference game would matter.

Bama needs a new QB. Actually Bama traditionally wins with basically a caretaker at QB, they’re doomed if their success is based on their QB making plays.

Simple solution, move the conference championships to thanksgiving weekend.

I still say, they need to come up with a way of making every team play two quality non-conference games every year. Pick the games at random. One game at home, the other on the road. One game early in the year, the other later in the year.

The presence of these two non-conference games, on everyone’s schedule will go a long way to helping determine who the best teams are. And you can keep the playoff at four teams.

War Eagle~!!!!

Exciting game for us Auburn fans . . . both our kids . . . although one graduated in May and still have one there as sophomore. Sure would make up for the year daughter was in band and got to go to Pasadena for Championship game and lost. :)

I did not realize that football was an accredited academic program - somewhere. ( I am not aware of which schools that might be.)

The comment about the 75% graduation rate is intended to be sarcasm; unless football does become an academic program, most major football mills run about 50%, maybe less??! It's all tied back to the fantasy that revenue sports like football use "student athletes" to justify the amateur status of their programs.

to follow up, after we lost to Iowa State, the rookie coach took a long hard look and threw some (Trey’s) Freshman into the Defensive backfield and a new defense was born. Not the greatest but a big improvement.

That’s what I mean by Adversity, and it takes time to recover. You loose this late and you don’t have any time left.

I’m just a fan . . . but how is that much different than the Wild Card in the NFL or any “wild card” that might go on to win a championship? Otherwise why have wild card slots?

I’m guessing there is a reason. Just askin’.

Easy. If OU loses and OSU wins big... OSU should go over Alabama. Alabama has a cupcake schedule and no one wants two sec teams in the playoff. Big 10 will be in the playoff.

Alabama had a weak schedule. They do not deserve to be there. Hell miss st should have beat them last week.

I think Wisconsin may have nearly as weak off a schedule (until next week against Ohio state we will see if they are real contenders.

But the big 10 needs to be there. They were very good this year with several top 10 teams all season. If Ohio state beats the only undefeated team they deserve to be there over an SEC failure.

The conferences that have grown too big to play a round robin and choose a legitimate champion will have to downsize, as they should anyhow. They’re nothing but tv marketing gimmicks now.

Are you saying that adding Maryland and Rutgers to get the Big Ten into the Washington and New York media markets was just a gimmick? < /s>

Lmao. SEC is way overrated. Big 10 had many more quality teams this year.

Bama does have a QB problem. He’s limited and the offense is limited. Bama has more firepower on offense than anyone. We just can’t use it because QB.

Hurts is an excellent runner but he will never be a good passer. All his passing yards are little dinks and dunks mostly behind the line of scrimmage.

I knew early last year Hurts would never be a good passer. He seems to throw the ball the where the receiver is instead of where he will be. He’s is terrible at reading defenses and making progressions when his primary receiver is covered. He’s got a lot of talent but just not as a passer.

I don’t see Saban winning another championship as long as he’s using a limited QB. Too hard to win all the games like that.

Yep. A lot of it has to do with when you lose. Bama lost late. They don’t deserve to go.

Of course football is not an accredited academic program.

But the facts are that the proper predicate for the baccalaureate is tolerance or excellence for the contemplative life or the laboratory, and these traits are present in a small minority of FBS football players, because their skill sets are aggression and physical training.

All I want is to end the farce of them graduating. If they must graduate, then let them graduate in football.
