For Pete's Sake!!

For all you grandparents out there...and a few others who just like a good laugh!

A woman in a supermarket is following a grandfather and his badly-behaved grandson. He has his hands full with the child screaming for candy, cookies, all sorts of things.

The grandpa is saying in a controlled voice: "Easy,Pete, we won't be long-easy, boy." The boy has another outburst and she hears the grandpa calmly say: "It's okay, Pete. Just a couple more minutes and we'll be out of here. Hang in there, son." At the checkout the little horror is throwing items out of the shopping cart. Grandpa says again in a controlled voice, "Pete, Pete, relax buddy, don't get upset. We'll be home in five minutes, stay cool, Pete." Very impressed, she goes outside to where the grandfather is loading his groceries and the boy into the car. She says:  "It's none of my business, but you were amazing in there. I don't know how you did it. That whole time you kept your composure, and no matter how loud and disruptive he got, you just calmly kept saying things would be okay.  Pete is very lucky to have you as his grandpa." "Thanks," says the grandpa, "but I am Pete. This little bastard's name is Kevin."

I’ve heard some grandparents say the best part of being a grand is knowing at some point in the day, the little so & so is going back home with his parents and staying there.
Some parents are so good, they only have to give their child ‘The Look’, and Junior shuts up for a while.

Well, we now have 18 grandchildren, so I’ve seen quite a few unusual things.

Some people just have that natural trait of looking or sounding just a little bit dangerous to the average person. “You wouldn’t like me when I got angry” is the vibe.

Not necessarily anything physical, but kids know some adults are clever enough (and willing enough) to turn the child’s life into something very unpleasant. No Captain Crunch, No Potato Chips for A YEAR!!..Even babies pick up on it.

Had I even thought of behaving like that as a kid I wouldn't have been able to sit down for a week. My parents were not abusive, although today that definition can be subjective, but by God, we were taught to behave or else. If you don't make children understand at a early age what manners are and if you don't teach no means NO and not ‘’Well’ maybe later’’ you're raising a spoiled brat who will become and obnoxious ill mannered thug someday.

“”we now have 18 grandchildren””

We have only one and oh! how I wish we could have more. He’s growing up so fast. I tell him his grandmother (me)needs to find another little boy who will enjoy playing games at the dining room table and not want to use an electronic whatever for entertainment when he’s here. He sometimes indulges me but it’s not long before he’s walking away from the table and I ask him where he’s going and he says, “I’m done.” His mother said he always does that. No prelude, no nothing - just done!

Amen!

I never have trouble with my grandchildren because I let them know what I expect, and I am consistent. They know “the look” from their grandmother.

Heh, heh. Out of our 9 grandkids, I’d say 2 fall into the Kevin category.
