To honor the Obama family, Colorado Democrats announced on Monday a name change to a fundraising event formerly known as the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.
In recent years, the event has been given new names by several states that were concerned it would be associated with slave owners. The Colorado Democratic Party said the new name honors the "historic contributions" of President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.
"The Obama legacy embodies the values we hold as Democrats, and we are beyond proud to rename our annual dinner after our former first family," said Pilar Chapa, executive director of the Colorado Democratic Party in a Monday press release on the party's website. "The Colorado Democratic Party is proud to honor the historic contributions from the former first family by naming our dinner the Obama Dinner."
The first Obama Dinner will be held in February 2018.
The Jefferson-Jackson Dinner traditionally celebrated Presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. Colorado's release did not mention the dinner's former name, but in recent years, state Democratic parties have been changing the name to distance themselves from the two former slaveholders.

Jefferson strove all his life to get rid of slavery, but he couldn’t get the southern states to agree with his plans, and so he shelved them as a temporary expedient in order to preserve the union.
He saw the balkanization of the US into different countries as the greater evil.
But he also warned that if the slavery issue was not addressed, his generation would be the murderers of their sons and grandsons, because eventually in their day the conflict over slavery would become violent.
And he was right.
I agree, it’s only a dinner.
But note the patting-themselves-on the-back for it, and news coverage of it on a national scale!

Last time I checked the Democrat Party was the party of slavery and segregation.
Democrats distancing themselves from ‘slave holders’... That’s rich. Considering pretty much ever democrat south of the Mason-Dixon line (and a lot of Democrats above it as well) vote Democrat to this day because Lincoln was a Republican.

Does anyone think that all these Obama named events/buildings will stick if all the corruption EVER comes out? Thanks, Republicans! You want to pretend that the protection of reverence for the Presidency (no matter WHO ever held the office) is more important than prosecuting the crimes of the previous Admin. The common man/woman is losing faith in our Government because they see the crimes being swiped away and criminals not being held accountable. Why should the ordinary people of this country obey the Laws when they see our ‘Leaders’ can get away with their crimes?

Need to update with the times to keep the new generations interested.
Instead of honoring a couple old guys from a period where Ds claim everyone
- accepted slave ownership
- expected blacks to do the bidening of wealthy whites
- made no effort to help blacks get out of horrible situations. no need since masters take care of the slaves needs
they know want to honor a new couple who
- accept that wealthy masters should control blacks
- expect blacks to do the biding of (vote for) wealthy elites (progress in that elites can now be black)
- make little/no effort to help blacks get out of their horrible situation (crime, poverty, poor education). No need since the elites provide everything “their blacks” need to live
And you're not ashamed of that, just a little bit?
