I remember as a kid my sister and I getting “functional” gifts (clothes) and completely tossing them aside for the good loot.

We saw it for the first time when a six year old with us said, about the scene meeting the bully in the raccoon hat, that’s from ‘Peter and the Wolf’

What is?

The music

The bully’s theme song is ‘Peter and he Wolf’. Brilliant A movie about cheesiness using Classic Russian to delineate the bully

Kids know

Actually I it is from five short stories from two of his books, but most came from, “In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash.” The leg lamp scene is a separate story. The movie never shows it, but it is a promotion by Nehi Soda. And only one person in the book says, “You’ll shoot your eye out.”

Darren McGavin makes the movie, it wouldn’t have been the same with anyone else.

He definitely was the standout, but I thought the entire cast was ideal. Who else could have played Scutt Farkis as well as the guy they used? Melinda Dillon was great as the mom and I also liked Teddi Moore as the schoolteacher. She had also appeared in director Bob Clark's Murder by Decree.

Scut Farkus! What a rotten name! We were trapped. There he stood, between us and the alley. Scut Farkus staring out at us with his yellow eyes. He had yellow eyes! So help me, God! Yellow eyes!

Thank you. The house in Cleveland where they filmed is a tourist attraction. And I get a personal laugh having gone to grad school with and dated a girl with the last name of Bumpus. Maybe the best depiction of American life before the 60’s more or less ruined it.

‘Love that. One may not see the entire movie from beginning to end, but you’ll see each scene of the movie by the end of the day.

Bob Clark, from Wikipedia. Lest we forget.

Clark and his son, Ariel Hanrath-Clark, 22, were killed in a head-on car crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles on the morning of April 4, 2007.[11] The crash occurred when an SUV driven by an illegal alien crossed the median and struck Clark’s Infiniti I30, causing the closure of the highway for eight hours.[6] Police determined that the SUV’s driver, Hector Velazquez-Nava, had a blood alcohol level of three times the legal limit and was driving without a license.[12] He initially pleaded not guilty to two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter,[13] but changed his plea to no contest in August. On October 12, 2007, Velasquez-Nava was sentenced to six years in prison under the terms of a plea agreement.[14] Valazquez-Nava was deported and re-entered under a different name and is currently living in Los Angeles illegally.[15]

I grew up at the same time as the Christmas Story is set in. Ralphie could have been me. I went to a school that looked just like his and witnessed a triple dog dare on the iron maypole that froze someone’s tongue.

Our dogs got into our turkey and ate into them to the point where we had none for Christimas dinner. There were no Chinese restaurrants nearby and we had no money for a large family to eat there anyway so our dinner was vegetarian with a triple saucing of laughter.

I love the movie and made my kids watch it with me every year. Still do. Merry Christmas to all Freepers.
