Gold Rush fans are used to miners going to great lengths to strike it rich, but in Discovery’s latest spin-off show, White Water, “Dakota Fred” Hurt and his son Dustin are headed deep beneath the water’s surface.

In the new reality series, which premieres in January, the father son duo return to McKinley Creek, Alaska, where they’ve enlisted a team of intrepid divers, mountaineers and bush mechanics to search for gold deep in one of Alaska’s wildest creeks.

Gold Rush: White Water premieres Jan. 19 at 10 p.m. ET on Discovery.

I think of the Hoffmans as the Wrong Way Corrigans of gold mining.

Originally I liked Todd. Got to really dislike him and wish him misfortune. Sadly he will drag Dave (gone), Jim Thurber, Freddie Dodge with him.

If Freddie Dodge can overcome an apparent cancer diagnoses will be alright. Fred is one of the best gold prospectors out there.

I agree about Todd. I really can’t stand him anymore. Making that 100 ounce bet with Parker was stupid but that’s arrogant Todd for you.

Parker reminds me of me growing up driven to succeed. He has made his fair share of mistakes along the way but he seems to learn from them as I did.

You’re right, Parker can be a little tyrant but so can Tony Beets and I also like Beets. My guess is having hundreds of thousands, if not millions, on the line in overhead can make anyone a little on edge. I give both of them a break with what they are risking.

I still watch the show occasionally but not nearly as interesting as it was. I used to like Dakata Fred’s ingenuity.

On the show. tired of all the contrived drama about reaching their goals, contrived feudes and dumb bets.

Espcially tied of hearing the narrator mention how reaching their goal of X ounces was in jeopardy as if the world was going to end if they don’t make it. He must say it 20x per episode.

Another good one they shut down after a year was The Yard. Had boat builders/fixers all across the country doing tough, tough dangerous work.
