I dont know about that but Escape from Alcatraz was a great movie though...
Fake news.
Well before my time, but I know in the 1930s and 1940s there were old men who claimed to be famous outlaws of the west, people who are DB Cooper, people who know where Elvis and Andy Kaufmann are located, and up to the 80s dozens of people who know they saw Hitler in Argentina. Shows that even in old age people want attention.
There is no doubt in my mind that he, and the Anglins, pulled it off.
He must have been on the waiting list at a VA hospital.
I’ve been watching that “Hunting Hitler” show on the history channel and have become convinced Hitler survived the war and lived out his life in Argentina. He may or may not have lived very long, but he survived the war.
Since there is no proof, and very little evidence that they survived, and a dead body wearing clothing matching what the prisoners wore was seen floating outside the Bay by a crewman aboard a passing ship the next day, how can you have no doubt?
What the officials from DOJ/BOP would do is whatever would spare their agency’s reputation.
Meaning it’s unlikely they would let the public know if the guy was in fact John Anglin.
What’s your response in the event the letter is verified?
Argentina...
That’s just Great.
Right. And I’m the Empress Anastasia.
But the fascinating part is Americans now realize not to look to bureaucrats when they want reliable information.
I would be very surprised. It would be a very rare case where an extraordinary claim turns out to be true. It should be simple to pull a finger print off the letter and compare it to prison records. I just find it hard to believe that the three escapees have managed to go undetected for nearly 60 years. In most mass escapes the majority are rounded up in a couple of days.
I could be convinced that onemaybe twosurvived, but it will take more than a letter with not much more proof.
To all government bureaucrats, and those who work for them, I say just sit for a minute and reflect on this.
The reason government has no credibility is because you squandered it.
When you took that first left turn down the road of lies and corruption, that was when you kissed your reputation goodbye.
I think you missed the extremely simple point in my comment: that the officials processing the letter are not interested in revealing the truth.
Soviet propaganda to distract from Katyn, and have the Allies chasing a phantom, rather than commie spies in their midsts.
If they are not interested then they must feel it is not worth investigating. Think of how every couple of years some backyard or field is dug up because some old codger claims Jimmy Hoffa is buried there. A waste of money and time.
