Yep - it covers all bacteria. “Bacterium” covers a more finite set of bacteria - but it seems with bacteria, there’s so dang many of them that plural works fine for most of us.

The bacteria was discovered in water collected from an industrial drain I see they failed to say what company was draining their ick into the waters or what that ick might be. Dunno, but that info might prove important.

Did you read the article? It states that the newly discovered bacteria is not harmful and may help discover new medicines to treat the other harmful strains, so this is good news.
