How McConnell and Chao used political power to make their family rich
New York Post ^ | March 17, 2018 | Larry Getlen

Peter Schweizer, who delved into the Clinton Foundation’s dealings in 2016’s “Clinton Cash,” has turned his sights to the money-making machinations of DC’s political elite. His new book, “Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends,” — due out Tuesday from Harper Collins — exposes how politicians engage in “corruption by proxy” by exploiting family and business ties to enrich themselves and their relatives. Here, The Post’s Larry Getlen details the book’s revelations on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, ex-Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker and others: In 2004, current Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his wife, current US Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, had an average net worth of $3.1 million. Ten years later, that number had increased to somewhere between $9.2 million and $36.5 million.

Both of you lambasted me for a comment I made about Obama getting his mother-in-law $180,000 per year for retirement.

The truth is he wrote an executive order for her to get it for her but Congress denied it so she was never given the money.

So, I was half right.

“”The truth is he wrote an executive order for her to get it for her but Congress denied it so she was never given the money. So, I was half right.””

That doesn’t appear anywhere online...do you have a source? Do you know the EO number? I really don’t think Congress has anything to say about EO’s...

From what I can gather, Obama tried to slip it into the following:

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2016/12/30/2016-31875/adjustments-of-certain-rates-of-pay

But it was rejected by Congress. Why? Because his mother-in-law was not a federal employee. That is when we heard about it and assumed that it had passed, however it had been rejected. So, she ended up not getting the payout as Michelle intended.

Here is an explanation of how the rejection takes place:

Well, I’ll be. Learn something new every day. Thanks.
I had no idea Congress could overrule an EO....

Right now there is a lot next door to us being prepared for house construction and I am busy learning
SEPTIC TANK 101. When curiosity gets the better of me, I go out and wait until one of the workers looks free for a minute and I ask questions. My husband and I are going to enjoy the whole project - we go from window to window to outside (that’s me), to back porch but I’m the only one who asks questions.

Any experienced in the field here on FR, I’d love to hear from you...Our first experience seeing anything like it AND living in an uncivilized place like this that has septic tanks. HA!

Howie Carr had the author on today. Mitch was gifted 25 million by his FIL. I so revile the swamp.

In Oct 2010 I posted after working for a campaign for a Tea Party insurgent, Why isn't the tea party going after K-Street, they are the problem? And I got no answers. I might have been 1/2 right, the Incestuous Kabal that the Swamp had become the art of growing the business (of government) nepotism, and intermarriage that I am not sure we can stop it, nor can PDJT.

he got his mother-in-law a nice $180,000 per year retirement that all of us are paying for.

FOR WHAT????

I never heard this before. She was supposedly in the WH as a babysitter. Once the kids were too old to need one, guess who never left. She was paid by us? And now has a dream retirement??? Sickening.

What the media would do to Trump if he was enriching all his family like this. Yet everyone loooooooves Obama.

You haven’t heard of it because it isn’t true. It was made up by a satire site and ignorant bloggers are still running with it.

Everybody turns political clout to personal gain after a while. Time for term limits.

We have been talking about term limits for 30 years now. The deep state doesn't want it; it won't happen. Not in their interest.

The deep state has ways of killing popular initiatives without you even knowing what they did. This is why Trump is so dangerous to them.

Yeah, and supposedly Bummer tried to get himself even more money (1 more million) for his retirement, but Congress nixed it.
