MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Facebook post is going viral in Memphis, but the people featured in it likely wish it wasn’t.
The post, which has been shared more than 339,000 times, reads as follows:
I don’t understand how can someone do this. Poor waiter was just doing their job and to have someone take it without reason. She left $20 tip to only have someone else take it.
It features two videos.
In the first video, you see two women getting ready to leave Casa Mexicana on Hacks Cross. One of them places money on the table – a tip for the waiter – and they walk away.
Once they leave, a woman in the neighboring booth points to the table with the money. She looks over her shoulder and around the restaurant and talks to the man she’s sitting with.
Eventually, she gets up and takes the money off the table. After hurrying back to her booth, the woman stuffs the money in her shirt and the couple continues looking around.

We befriended a black waitress at one of the local restaurants. She told us that the waitresses finally had to adopt a turn type policy when a black client would enter. Nobody wanted them because they knew they would be high maintenance and the tips would be non-existent.
I would be interested to know the race of the waitress?...would these low lifes steal from their own race?....listen to me...of course they would...
We have a Swiss customer we rotate like that. Unbelievably demanding and zero tip. Good thing she’s here only during the summer.
“Older people”. What are you, some kind of ageist? What makes an old person less dangerous than say, young gang members from Chicago? Sure, we can’t run as fast or beat up cops as well, but we’re sneaky.
If you watched the video to the end you would sort of know. It showed a a male waiter come to the table as the perps were walking out.
I fully agree with everything you say we do need to be more sensitive (though not in the PC way). I will say, a very large part of the snarkyness is a very direct reaction to how the media does all it can to hide the extent of the proportionality by hiding descriptions and using euphemisms like “teen”. I bet a large amount of the negative reactions these stories get would go away if the media did not go to such absurd lengths to hide it.
I would bet 90% plus of freepers see our fellow citizens who share our values to be comrades in arms regardless of where they come from. But I believe there are powers that be that are doing all they can to sew dischord between groups in our society. I think everybody is being manipulated. Liberals can be manipulated into burning cities down, conservatives react more passive agressive

Everyone knows Black folks don’t leave much in the way of tips, but now we have documented proof that they steal the tips left by whites.
He acted like he was making sure that the coast was clear for her to pick up the tip.

There is one gender that are terrible tippers.
And there is one race that is the absolute worst of all for tips.
And we all know who they are.

That would be my gender. I think that separates out in to two groups: Those who have been waitresses at one time (me) tip very well. Those who haven’t had that job are pretty bad. Generalities, of course.

The police will not bother with a $20 theft.
They should, under the “broken window” theory of policing. But I bet they will not.
One more reason to actually hand a cash tip to the waiter/waitress in person, rather than leave it on the table.

I would generally agree with your exception. I think duration of being a waiter/waitress has an impact on how someone tips as well.
During a restaurant visit I witnessed a couple who had just finished their meal and were both standing, arguing about the tip. The woman wanted to leave money on the table and he did not. She placed the money on the table and he stopped arguing and pretended to give up and to follow her out, but not before swiping the money from the table when her back was turned. They both left with a smile on their face. Poor waiter.

When I was a waitress I don’t remember having a huge problem with females not tipping.
