You got no class kid!
“Did you see the dead guy breathing in the grave and a vehicle driving in the distance? I do have it in remastered HD-DVD.”
whu-what??
Sam Elliot. Tom Selleck. Scott Glenn. All actors devoted to the genre.
Their movies have some extraordinary authenticity in terms of the period hardware used.
Silverado gave John Cleese what actually seemed to be a break-action British revolver (Webley?). Then there were the two Henry .44 rifles instead of the ubiquitous, generic, anachronistic Winchester 1892.
Broken Arrow...
About the Apache Cochise.
XLNT!
Shane established a story line formula that can seen in many westerns, and other genres, since.
Jack Palance played his part perfectly.
Yes. See my post on authenticity. Selleck’s open iron sights rifle is a gem.
“But...but what about Evil Roy Slade?
I mentioned it earlier. I still quote Mr. Slade in word and deed. A classic,
“Sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn’t.”
Edmond OBrien was great. There were 6 or 8 tremendous roles in Liberty Valance, I dont believe Ive ever seen another movie which boasted a stellar performance by everyone involved.
Open RANGE...
XLNT Black Powder shoot-out!
“But...but what about Evil Roy Slade?
I mentioned it earlier. I still quote Mr. Slade in word and deed. A classic,
gree the Cowboys is a lesson in life. Wayne leads the boys on a cattle drive however he leads them to manhood.
He was fantastic in that movie. Well, the whole movie was great. And so many things you didn’t catch until the second time watching it. I love movies like that.
It is set to record, I just didn’t notice which channel.
“The western genre was generally subverted by Commiewood by the end of the 60s.”
Thank you so much for that statment. That’s my belief also, and one reason I haven’t been to a movie theater in almost 35 years. You can count the movies I’ve seen since the 1970s on both hands and have a few fingers left over.
God do I evermore HATE Hollywood!
How about “The Villain” with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kirk Douglas.
Said I didn’t have much use for ‘em, never said I didn’t know how to use ‘em.
Classic.
Yes, but the El Dorado version is much better overall.
The drunk sheriff is handled more realistically in Rio Bravo, I can't argue that. The unspoken moments between Dean Martin and Wayne are brilliant. But El Dorado is just more fun to watch.
Also, El Dorado has Michelle Carey :)
Drums along the Mohawk scared the hell out of me as a kid.
Distant Drums with Gary Cooper and the Seminoles in the Everglades.
Latest version of Last of the Mohicans (and the gael) stirred the bejesus out of my Scots Irish blood.
I was reading about that movie. That REALLY little kid in the movie? John Wayne thought he was too small and might get hurt, and wanted to cut him. The kid threw his lasso and yanked Wayne’s legs from underneath him. “Well I can drop you - you son of a bitch!”
Obviously he stayed. I think all of the kids were actual riders and “cowboys”.
