To any would be intruders I might suggest they get familiar with the fragrance of Hoppe’s #9, it could save your life.

Obviously his cologne was not Hoppe’s Number 9

Well, I hope you never have the chance to try that yourself. Who cares if both were black. The risk to the woman was tremendous, regardless of the fact she was armed.

The man had every intent on doing her grave harm or killing her, he had the opportunity (he had illegally invaded her home) he had the means ( he is a man compared to the woman-disparity of force) and he had intent (he was again illegally in her home). Non one can rationally draw any conclusion other than that he fully intended to commit horrible felony crimes against her.

She was justified in every way.

Best bet for you is to send your daughters to a self defense instructor, I do not recommend you try to train them yourself.

If she did not have the gun, I wonder how that would have gone when she opened the closet?

I feel the same way about cheap cologne. Some things just are unacceptable and deserve extremely harsh penalties.

Not sure about SC, but in NY, the woman would be going to jail. Civil suits may follow in either state.

Better to call the police and retreat to a secure position (armed). It doesen't matter how justified the action is - it only matters what 12 of your peers think. And if you have gotten that far - you are out $10K+ for legal fees.

If he makes any move in her direction, she is then perfectly justified in shooting him. One other commenter noted that he lunged at her. I had missed that detail, which makes all the difference.
If he had not lunged, and ifshe had told him to return to the closet and close the door and that, if he came out, she would shoot him, this would have taken her out of any danger while she waited for the police to show up.

The ability to distinguish that odor from others is a good survival mechanism, or hyper vigilance. That, coupled with the fact that she immediately offed the perpetrator, suggests she’s been in a life or death situation before.

Regardless, it ended well.

I saw some interviews with criminals. They said they didn’t fear cops nearly as much as armed citizens. In fact, armed citizens scared the crap out of them - and this example is PERFECT for that point. The lady (or should I say hero), more than likely, doesn’t have the training necessary to hold a suspect at gunpoint, so she takes the easy option. Thankfully in SC, her life is easy provided that the gun is legal, which I’m sure it is. He was there, had no business there, and he was ‘dispositioned’.

Get rid of armed civilians and life for criminals gets MUCH, MUCH, EASIER, and we see the results in England now, where the criminals now come door to door AT NIGHT, checking to see who forgot to lock their door (as a home owner, you hear your doorknob jingle at night when this happens). If the door is unlocked, they simply invite themselves in. Why do it at night? Because the owners basically cannot defend themselves (never armed, usually to frail to fight), and the owners know where the loot is...so you have the owners get the loot for you. VERY EASY life to be a criminal there now. But don’t try that MO in Texas (or SC), you won’t last long.
