Jodie Foster Says America Has a "Problem" With Female Directors
Hollywood Reporter ^ | May 21, 2018 | Lou Vanhecke

Hotel Artemis star Jodie Foster explained that she loves to act but will continue directing as well at Saturday's premiere of the new action film at the Regency Bruin Theater in Los Angeles.

“I said it and I’ll keep saying it — I want to direct,” Foster explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “And I will direct more than I acted.”

The actress/filmmaker was not shy to share her thoughts about the rise of female directors, as that faction of the film industry has been the “last area” that needs to see a change. She also made a point to mention that “Europe has always been ahead.”

“It’s America that’s the problem, and it has been for a very long time,” Foster said. “We need to bang the head of America to let them know that it needs female directors.” Furthering her comments on female helmers in Hollywood, Foster smiled and said, “Just look at Wonder Woman.”

Clueless and Fast Times at Ridgemont High were both directed by a woman.

We have a woman CIA Director. Good enough for me.

Yeah, I guess all those Katherine Bigelow movies like “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Hurt Locker” that were highly acclaimed and commercial successes are just nuthin’.

No, Jodie, America has a problem with bad movies no matter who the director might be. She’s been directing for over 30 years.

American Lois Weber began directing films around 1910 and by “1920, Weber was considered the “premier woman director of the screen and author and producer of the biggest money making features in the history of the film business.”

Well, to be perfectly fair, it must be nerve-wracking now that Hinckley has been released into foster care...

“America” doesn’t give a damn, Jodie. Hollywood does, though, apparently. Bitch at them, not at us.

Hey, Jodie
Bring your strap-on to your next interview. Maybe they’ll think you’re a man and hire you, since Hollywood is SOOOOOO sexist.

IMHO, I either like a movie or I don’t. I certainly could care less who directed it. There are a lot of good movies that I have seen that I won’t watch again because of the political views of the actors. Jodie Foster being one of them.

Really? In the left dominated Hollywood, we need more female directors? How about not caring if the director is female or male, and just hire the best person for the job. Period.

Kathryn Bigelow won best director for the 2010 film Hurt Locker. That was a fantastic movie, and put the star on the map for future movies and stardom (Infinity War not withstanding).

Penny Marshall has been directing for 30+ years.

I don’t think we need more “female directors”, we need more GOOD directors, regardless of their dangly or not dangly bits.

As if most people give a rat’s patoot who directed a movie.

Honestly, most films I see, I haven't a clue who the director is, unless their name is the selling point. I go based on the movie, not the director. (Although there are probably a few directors I'm actually done with and would avoid.)

I'll probably see "Black Widow" regardless of who directs (and what gender they are). I'm not likely to see a "Sex and the City"-type movie, regardless of who's directing. There's a sliding scale in between of what I'll see (or wait for on HBO or Netflix).

Yes, what is she really saying? A liberal/leftist paradise in Hollywood, are deficient in hiring woman directors? But they are liberal so how can they be discriminating???

...

Jodie doesn’t have what Harvey Weinstein wants.

Anyone can make a movie these days. The time when camera rental for movie quality was 50k a day is long gone.
Anyone motivated can create better than Hollywood special effects, and produce extreme high quality product.

Parts you need beyond the Tech?
1. Quality Script - Very hard to get, especially if you are a SJW and need a person of every flavor in your film
2. Quality actors - Even harder after you have the story, since those rainbow snowflakes may not act worth a damn and are just check box hires and quota hires.
3. Distribution - Now we are at Hollywood, and they are greedy bastards an if you have the quality images, quality writing, and quality acting, you already are sold. But since you ruined 1 and 2 with a gay cowboy story that nobody wants to see, you are done.

Welcome to SJW Hollywood, no matter how liberal they are, it isn't ever good enough. PC Culture is toxic poison and nobody cares about the movies anymore.

Not when they make good movies. America has a problem with self-important “auteurs”.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t go see a movie because of who the director is. Usually, I don’t know until the credits start.

Even after the credits roll, I don't recognize the name.
