Two rescues respond to pit bull attack on 4-year-old, woman shortly after 8 p.m.

A 4-year-old and an adult woman suffered severe facial lacerations and were transported to the trauma hospitals in Providence after both were bitten by a pit bull in a South End yard where the dog was kept, police said.

Police put down the dog “to stop the attack,” Lt. Barden Castro told The Herald News within an hour after the 8:13 p.m. incident in what he said became a chaotic neighborhood at Bay Street and Mount Hope Avenue.

The child, whose gender he did not know, was transported by rescue to Hasbro Children’s Hospital and the woman to Rhode Island Hospital, Castro said. He did not know if she was the child’s mother after speaking with Sgt. David Murphy, who was at the scene.

Castro said initial reports were that the injuries were not life threatening, although when he first heard them he said, “It sounded pretty bad.” Initial scanner reports said the child’s head was in the dog’s mouth.

Three people injured after dog attack in Oklahoma City

POSTED 5:20 PM, JUNE 14, 2018, BY LILI ZHENG, UPDATED AT 10:27PM, JUNE 14, 2018

Three people were hurt at a metro neighborhood after an apparent pit bull attack.

Just before 9 a.m. Thursday, police responded to a home on the 400 block of Pumpkin Circle. A woman was trying to save her cat from two pit bulls, when police say the dogs turned on her.

The woman’s neighbor, Kelly Babbit, said she saw what was happening outside and didn’t think twice to run out and help.

“One of them was little, and I thought I could take them, and I got to there and the dog looked at me and the little one took a running leap and locked onto my face and I went down and when I went down, the big one came and locked on my head,” recalled Babbit.

Her son, Nick Merrell, heard his mother screaming and said he went into what he described as “defense mode.”

“I pushed one off to the side, but the other one came up and bit me on my leg,” Merrell said. “He bit me on my other leg, but didn’t get me as good.”

As soon as they ran inside their home, they called the police.

Another one. The child was said not to have life threatening injuries, but it was also said that the dog held the child’s head in his mouth. Hopefully no skull fractures nerve or lobe damages occurred. Psychological damages to the child, the relative and the officer who was forced to kill the dog may not be visible for a long time, if ever.

I’m waiting for a congressman or senator bold enough to introduce a bill that will outlaw new ownership, breeding or sales of these dogs. I don’t care what party that public servant belongs to at that time. This is bigger than the party.

Pit bulls belong in zoos - not back yards.

Reckless breeding got us here, and I’m wondering if DNA testing can help to isolate the Deranged chromosome.

But we all have to accept pit bulls living in our neighborhoods because they are lovable mauling and chewing machines that are well-behaved until they go IED. Kind of like muzzies.

That would be the worst solution.

I’d rather see a pro-active scientific approach by the relevant societies and DVMs to voluntarily cull the problematic strands.

Would be hard to eradicate the problem gene now because pits owners often let their dogs out to roam or the pits defy enclosures and leashes and cross breed at will - thats why deaths are often attributed by “pit mix.” Some don’t look much like pits but they have the instinct.

And then pit apologists selectively breed some pits to look like Rotties. There was a news story about a “service dog” rottweiller that went crazy on a bus and maimed some people. A closer look at the story revealed the “rottie” was an adult 40 lb dog. So the rottie coloration was used to pass off the pit bull and of course the “service dog” story was yet another lie.

No, the hunter killer instinct exhibited by pit bulls, was intentionally bred into the breed by English grain farmers, who wanted a dog that would kill off the rat popolations that were devastating their harvested goods.

Mild mannered, non aggressive pit bulls are the exception, not the rule.

Just any time from now a pit bull apologist will attack declaring anyone who criticizes pit bulls to be ignorant of just about anything one can imagine.

The attacks have become frequent and consistent in outcome, nothing good.

I killed a pit bull once. And a couple other breeds too, over the years. I lived on the family farm out in the sticks. People would drop them out there. They would mess with the cows and that was a death sentence for them. I lived too far out to rehome or take them to a shelter. I took them out. I have never once felt bad about it.

The 2,500-pound elephant in the room no one is talking about is the fact that, at least here in Southwest Florida, the preponderance of pit bull owners seem to be immigrants from South American countries, including Mexico. If I remember correctly, we never had a pit bull problem in America until the floodgates opened to illegal aliens, back around the time Simpson-Mazzoli passed in congress and Ted Kennedy was still in the senate.
