I worked at the Manned Spacecraft Center on Apollo 7 thru 12. The splash-down party after the crew was safely on board the recovery ship after 8 was an incredible spontaneous event.
Thank goodness it isnt National Moonbat Day.
Great that you were there, at this historic event.
I’m sure it did appear to be spontaneous.
Rejoice in being wrong. :)
It's okay. It's all about timing. Some things take a while for every detail to be positioned exactly right.
America is going to make the moon landing look small. People argue over Neil Armstrong's quote - was there an indefinite article or not. Quibbles bubble up over the smallest things.
The world will be forced into silence, no more beatdowns and desecration of America allowed. Watch for it.
I remember watching the event at my Grandparents house. My Grandfather was 74 at the time. He had flown a JN-4 Jenny in WWI in France. He got to see aviation go from kites with underpowered engines to safely putting a man on the moon and getting him back home.
There were celebrations after all the missions but the one after 11 was incredible. Texas had no liquor by the drink at that time. He hotels in the area had private clubs. The law did not prevent them from giving it away. And they did. Opened their doors and let the booze roll out. It was against the law to drink on the street but it wasn’t enforce.
Already making plans for two weeks in Houston / Cape Canaveral next year. I’m hoping it will be Super Bowl Week for techies.
