Tom Hidddleston did a great job in The Night Manager. And who knew Hugh Laurie could play such a good baddie.

We are anxiously awaiting the second season on Amazon Prime.

Not a good choice. Bond is a supposed to be a normal British guy who perseveres through government bureaucracy and evil villains. He is not supposed to be exotic at all. All around him can be, but not him. Craig was a refreshing return to the original bond. At least that was true of the first two Craig movies. A normal guy who was just getting the job done while getting a little something, something on the side. Those were two really good movies.

Been bond fan since read casino in high school. I like I did as bond. Race not important can be easily explained. My first choice is Clive Owen. Like Craig. But he’s burned out. If m can be a woman. Bond can be black

You are right Elba is already too old. Bond is not supposed to be some old guy. He is supposed to be young. I hated watching a near 60 year old Roger Moore try to look suave with a bunch of twenty something girls. He just looked old. Bond should be 30 so they can knock out three to four movies before he looks like an old lecher.

Henry Cavill should be old enough now or even Tom Hardy

IMHO, neither of Elba’s two prime drawbacks to the 007 role have anything to do with race. First, he’s already four years older than Connery was when Broccoli retired him due to his paunch and receding hairline. Eon’s cycle for producing a Bond film is about three years, and a new Bond is expected to lead the charge for at least three films, so Elba would be mid-50s by the time the third installment of the black Bond was released.

And then there’s the accent. Based on his past performances, Elba has shown he can somewhat reel in the Cockney but it’s still Estuary at best, nothing remotely gentrified. I don’t think he pull off anything resembling a believable ‘Posh’ (then again, Sean Bean can’t do anything but Tyke, so it has nothing to do with race). At which point the question bcomes, is the world ready for a Cockney James Bond?

Not to forget the new Doctor Who is a woman, and one of the Beeb’s new Three Musketeers is black (and also happens to be the most skilled ‘swordsman’ [if you know what I mean] of the three). So they’re in on blurring all boundaries.

But I think they’re overlooking my candidate for the next Bond, Aidan Turner, who plays Captain Ross Poldark in the BBC’s Poldark series. He’s got the look, the accent, he does athletic, and he’s 10 years younger than Elba.

Why not? He’s a good looking guy.

He is already a super hero...why not one of the original Movie Super Heroes?

Dalton is my favorite after Sean Connery. He only had two movies to really explore the character but he had an intensity that I think moviegoers in 1987 weren’t ready for. It would take Craig to reboot the franchise at a time when moviegoers could tolerate a grittier and more violent Bond.

I’m not a Dr Who fan or even watch the series but I did enjoy the Matt Smith/Amelia Pond episodes.

YES!!! Those were the only episodes I was willing to watch with my sons. David Tennant overacting grated on me. Smith w/ Amy Pond was brilliant.

Perhaps they can’t find another white Brit with a full set of balls. Daniel Craig is famous about his hatred of guns, and apparently that’s leaked into the franchise.

The irony, of course, of the series is that sometimes the only thing that works is a gun.

Oh well, it’s their money.

I’d actually be willing to watch him as Bond. I haven’t bothered with a Bond in around 30 years, just not that interesting a franchise. But I’d watch Elba do just about anything, heck I watched him in Gunslinger and other than him that movie sucked.

Why is easy. He’s the only one of the really great British actors out today not tied to Marvel. Bond production and promotion schedules are a nightmare, no way to work them into Marvel schedule. So with Hiddleston, Fassbinder, and Cumberpatch all taken. And frankly he’s better than Fassbinder and Hiddleston anyway, maybe not Cumberpatch.

Elba can pull off a Baltimore thug accent. He can do whatever accent you want.

They could redo Live and Let Die with a white Baron Samedi.

Craig looks like a sourpuss. The lady that played M also had that look.
The Bond series need better writing.
Plus no people who look like they are sucking lemons.

#53 She deserved to die. She left a safe place and went for a walk at night with a flashlight with the bad guy lurking around.
