Caldwell’s qualifications appeared to be the strongest to me; I had not heard or read any negatives; he is supported by a friend of mine who is an elected county official whose political judgment I trust.
Yup. Blue wave would mean lots of early Democrat voting.
As a resident of Florida since 1961, I thought Jeb was a good governor during hard times, and was disappointed that he didn’t work to help get the parties nominee, Trump, get elected. It was a take my toys and go home tantrum by the Bush family. As far as Ag concerns go, It was/is one of Florida’s main revenue streams, probably exceeded only by selling swamp land to northerners as gated communities. I’m a classical economic kind of guy, in that you create wealth by mining, growing, inventing, and adding value to goods. Lawyers think you get wealthy by fighting to your clients last dollar. Unfortunately lawyers are over represented in government, while farmers, miners, inventors and manufacturers are under represented. So yeah, go ahead, put another lawyer in government, and then complain when he becomes a lobbyist for whoever offers him the most money after he’s out of office.
As far as Ag Commissioner goes, I am going with Matt Caldwell. I think that we'd be OK with any of them (I would have to dig deeper), but Caldwell gets the NRAs nod, and seeing as he's in charge of CCW in Florida, that's a plus.
I love it.
I get a bit irritated exposed to the drumbeat of Trump hate pouring out of the south Florida media. Even the “Rush” station in Miami is infected with Trump hate virus.
The papers and local tv stations are likewise filled with young “reporters” who have no apparent knowledge of anything other than what the Democrat party or CNN cranks out.
So it is nice to see other parts of Florida are still sane.
:)
Your post prompted me to look up and see if my ballot was received.
It was, and so, as far as I know, the polling system for this election at least for me appears to be intact and secure.
I get so mad when I hear about a mysterious pack of uncounted ballots appearing out of nowhere days after an election.
I start boiling when some judge allows such ballots to be counted as if nothing were out of the ordinary with them.
IMHO, election laws should be tightened up so that any "mystery ballots" like that, when they appear out of nowhere, are dead on arrival... no chance for being validated. We absolutely need to reform our clownish election system nationwide.
But an interesting thing happened.
I actually sat with my laptop as I voted at home, and had time to read a little about all the candidates. With search engines as they are, faults and all, I was able to get some insight about each of the candidates, especially for judicial candidates.
Never have been able to do that in the past... usually in the old days I just trusted the local fishwrap's judgment on a given candidate.
But now the internet shows warts and all, and early voting is giving me the time and impetus to research these people.
In a voting booth, you are right, there is literally no time to think and no one brings in a researched, checklist of whom to vote for.
Generally, I think this will make for better elections where better candidates prevail.
IF.... we can insure the integrity and security of the ballotting.
Have changed my mind 180 about early ballotting. See my post just above for why, if you are interested.
FReegards.
You can, of course, do your research on the candidates online at your own pace and then go to the voting booth on election day to cast your vote.
Health care workers (nurses, doctors, therapists, technicians), policemen, firemen, hard working, get-up-early and-drive-to-work-in-the-dark people, Mike Rowe type Dirty Jobs people, usually vote conservatively.
The thing about these people is they often are too beat to vote on election day, or on-call duty interferes with their ability to get to the polls, or their schedule is too ridiculously hard to allow them to get to the polls.
As a health care worker, I can't tell you how many elections I have not participated in because of the demands of my occupation.
And many, many others are in the same boat.
The Rats, well, they have a lot more free time and they tend to have cushier jobs, rides to the polls, or no jobs at all, and they, unlike us, make voting the ultimate priority to keep the gravy train rolling for themselves.
So early voting, if a lot of people adopt it, may reveal a strong, real-person bias to it, with a windfall of lots of conservative votes appearing in mail-in ballots.
Maybe we are seeing that right now in this ballot's result.
I usually wait to see who the SH!T goes after, and then I vote for them. They've been quiet on this one.
Caldwell gets a 100% from the NRA so that alone is worth the vote. Thanks.
For me at least.
I don't believe I have ever seen someone come in with a filled-out practice ballot that he/she then transfers to the real ballot.
I bet very few people are diligent enough to have done the research and come in, and, having memorized the names of their choices, they then vote.
I bet instead people vote for the surnames they like, the nationalities they like, the genders they like, or who knows what.
Also, they vote hurriedly, and are already steamed at having to wait in line for an hour or more. When they finally vote in the booth, they feel justified in just getting it over with as soon as possible.
But there is something that nags you when you are filling out a mail-in ballot, with no time constraint as you would have in a voting booth. You feel as if you are obligated to give a better accounting of the candidates, and make the ballot the best set of choices it can be.
And another scenario has happened to me: I did the before-the-election research you mentioned, and was ready to vote, and on election day, something emergent came up at work and I was stuck and could not get to the polls.
Mail in voting would prevent this from occurring.
Just my opinions.
Magnificent...I agree with you 100%!!!
I always make a list for my husband when we vote. He wants to vote, but he doesn’t want to take the time to do the research. He trusts my judgment.
BTW, all four of my choices for the GA runoff won.
OK, enought!
If I go vote tomorrow, does that mean I can take the rest of the day off? Being in Florida has such responsibilities. Why can't I live in Wyoming where RATS can't survive the winter nor the vote in November?
Frank White is the conservative. The female opponent looks to me to be a RINO.
Matt Caldwell got an A+ NRA rating, and I believe DJT Jr. endorsed him.
So, I voted for both of these guys.
He is a cutie pie with twinkling eyes, for sure.
I voted for him, but would have voted for him regardless. Eye Candy is a plus : )
I got that mailer also, but had previously rec’d an email and another flyer that showed Donald Trump Jr. endorsed Caldwell as well as Matt receiving an A+ NRA rating. That’s good enough for me.
Donald Trump Jr. endorsed Caldwell as well as Matt receiving an A+ NRA rating.
Frank White is the conservative. The woman opponent appears to be a RINO, imo.
