LOL You win the thread.
If you understand the game, the strategy and skills of the players are amazing.
Also like soccer there aren’t long commercial timeoutstwo 40-minute halves. Time is stopped for injuries, but not if a play is developing. You see the medics treating an injured player as play swirls around them.
Unlike soccer you rarely have 0-0 ties. Often the action happens very quickly and the accuracy of the kicking game is a lot of fun to watch.
“Would you allow your son/grandson to play football?”
Sons did... grandsons are pussies.
Yes. I played Football, Lacrosse and Ice Hockey. By far the hardest collisions that I encountered were in Hockey. Not even close.
No disrespect to any other athletes, but I don't think I'm going out on a limb here when I say hockey is the most difficult sport of all, and requires a very challenging combination of strength, quickness and hand-eye coordination.
And man, can it be beautiful when you see it up close ...
I tend top ask this question of guys who are 40-60. Most recent two, one (40) is a very successful attorney but with very bad knees but received a college scholarship that opened up opportunities he wouldn’t have had. No regrets on his part (yet). Another guy (55) just had a knee replacement after his knee bothering him since high school. Wishes he had never played.
I was 6’ 1”, 150 lbs. in high school. Our school was small, but not that small.
Probably march Drum Corps, like I did. I guarantee, very few football players would survive a season of Drum Corps.
During the study they did a CT Scan,an MRI,blood tests and a million memory tests, some of them were done using computers.
I qualified for the study because I sustained what I,at least, think was a pretty nasty head injury during BCT in 1969.
Although they wouldn't confirm it I think I did very poorly in the memory tests. Not long after those tests a physician came in the room and asked me a million questions about that head injury.I don't know for sure but my guess is that she was either a neurologist or a neurosurgeon.
I don't know what abnormalities,if any, they found but I hope my participation was helpful.
Three years of high school football. Lettered. Offered scholarship to a Missouri Valley Conference team. Declined. I’d be lying if I said I enjoyed it. Miserable but learned lessons and attitudes that have served me well through life. Camaraderie and team spirit akin to my military experience. Extreme respect and reverence for the coaches.Wouldn’t trade it for anything.
No football. Do gymnastics.
The girls were always much better looking.
“Rather football than get married today.”
Football could ruin your body but marriage can ruin your mind.
My sons play football. They love it.
Yes. All of the fake science studies on concussions etc is cultural marxist bullsh!t.
The goal is to destroy our institutions and past times...The left have done a bang up job on that, too.
What is the most popular Olympic sport?
Girl’s gymnastics.
The next best thing was college gymnastics.
The young women looked the best. And they were in shape.
And I think we all know how they turned out.
If you think any of the Mannings are "p*ssys" you are welcome to look them up and tell them so in person.
Dad played football.
HS football for me. Parents never babied me, and let me make the choice.
1 son played HS football. Totally left it up to him.
3 grandsons played HS football.
2 grandsons went on to play college ball.
Wouldn’t change a thing. Yes, we all had some injuries. But, most normal boys will end up doing stupid stuff anyway that is likely to get them hurt.
Playing sports in high school is critical for young people. They learn team building but more importantly they learn time management. Football is a sport that all my sons played. But they also played baseball and fell in love with that sport. Have your grandson play something and don’t limit him based on your perceived danger of the sport. Let him decide and let him excel where he does...either in sports or academics or both. Don’t limit his experiences based on your perceptions.
Yes if he really wanted to, of course. However, I dream of a day where football and hockey can be played without the risk of ending your life in a neurodegenerative drilling state. Helmets dont cut it. There needs to be a way to keep the brain from hitting the skull. One day I will invent something.
