After dramatic overtime wins, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are headed to their ninth (!) Super Bowl together, to face off against young Jared Goff and Sean McVay. But the talk today is all about an obvious, game-deciding blown call, and what the NFL must do to address an officiating crisis.

The story this morning should be, would be, Rams coach Sean McVay taking a franchise that had missed the postseason 12 consecutive times to the Super Bowl in just his second year, and going right through the raucous Superdome to do it. The story this morning should be, would be, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s incomparable brilliance in the face of a worthy young challenger at Arrowhead.
But that’s not where we are on this Monday morning.
As has been the case, to a lesser degree, on other Monday mornings this year, you woke up today to more talk about a bad call in a football game. And you should. Because what happened in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday was as bad as it gets, the NFL’s worst nightmare come alive after a year in which the officials were criticized constantly. A terrible officiating failure cost a team a trip to the Super Bowl.
That’s no exaggeration either. There was 1:48 showing when Saints quarterback Drew Brees feathered the ball down the right sideline to Tommylee Lewis, who looked back for it, only to take a crushing head shot from Rams corner Nickell Robey-Coleman, who was on time for the hit like the Giants used to be on time for Tom Coughlin’s meetings: about five minutes early.

That's a pretty stupid comment. Brees has ample arm strength. As much or more than Brady.
His arm was hit on the interception.. and, there was BLATANT interference on that play. The DB simply ran into the Saints receiver, to make SURE he couldn't catch the ball. Then, was lucky enough to have the ball land in his lap while falling down. In no way was that a knock on Brees.
They played well and as always the refs give them the calls.
There was a time when I would have agreed with you. But, not anymore. I watch a LOT of football, at several levels. In the college and NFL game, I see plenty of games where the outcome is, VERY CLEARLY, pre-determined.
That one non-call that everyone is talking about was not the ONLY call, non-call that went against the Saints yesterday. One of their last drives in regulation was stopped by a similarly egregious non-call of pass interference. A score on that drive would have put the game out of reach. It wasn't going to be allowed.
Even on the interception play that put the Rams in a position to win, there was blatant interference... no call.
Roger Goodell made SURE the new franchise in Los Angeles was going to get maximum support. The fix was 100% in.

If that conspiracy was true, there would be a New York team in the Super Bowl every year. And smaller market cities like Green Bay and Indianapolis would never get to the big game.

The Pat players on offense. Are the greatest players ever assembled for clutch plays. Watching them play was amazing. The catches spectacular. I respect that organization, like no other. In sports.
Agreed.
Perhaps this is true of the NFL. But never forget the Ex-NBA referee Tim Donaghy who exposed the bias that was quite prevalent in the NBA. It left a stain on all pro sports.
KC got hurt on the imaginary roughing call but D Ford lining up - not jumping - but lining f’in up - offside is unbelievable.
Saints flat out robbed - I wouldn’t have blamed Payton if he just pulled his team off the field in protest.
It wasnt the refs Ken. One KC drive late in the game was gift wrapped by the refs for KC. The blown pick play not called and a terrible PI against NE on the same drive. KC got about 60 yards on those 2 blown calls. The roughing the passer call was bad that went against KC. On that play Edelman was being mugged and it wasn’t called.
The reason people can complain about 3 hrs is not technology, but COMMERCIALS.
Please everybody realize that. It’s TV, not the game or review.
That's certainly part of it as well.
You aren’t much aware of the fan base of these teams.
The Hatriots may be a hot team but that doesn’t mean people nationwide love them or want to watch. They aren’t a big fan base. Never mind 5e Rams. But then, none of the conference teams are.
The earlier non-call would have been a 3rd down conversion for the Saints.
There were more Cowboys fans in the stands when they played the Rams in LA.
Kinda like Las Vegas and their hockey team winning the Stanley Cup.
Yep, everybody forgot about that first obvious PI that wasn’t called.
And I still maintain the interception in overtime should have been called back because of PI, as the ball wasn’t tipped.
Yep, saw both.
Obvious to everyone except the refs.
Makes you wonder.
