Texas Catholic priest arrested after allegedly molesting woman while giving her last rites

The Rev. Gerold Langsch, was charged with assault by contact following the encounter in October. He’s currently free on $15,000 bond and is facing a year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000.

The 75-year-old priest is accused of the assault after he visited a woman in hospice care at home for complications from diabetes and administered the sacrament of anointing the sick, a sacrament of absolution.

The woman, who wasn’t identified, says Langsch first anointed her chest with holy water and then began to apply lotion on her body and massage her breast.

At one point he allegedly pinched her nipple and asked “Does that feel good?” before attempting to put his hand in her diaper, which he was unable to do.

The alleged incident and priest’s behavior left the woman shocked and confused, she told the police. She said she felt like a “nasty, dirty piece of meat.”

Police said that the reason it took nearly half a year for the authorities to arrest Langsch is because of the woman’s health, which delayed the investigation, even though she reported the crime five days after the incident, according to CBS Austin.

She was reportedly able to identify the priest in a lineup helping officers make an arrest and charge him with the crime.

Any Catholic care to comment about ‘last rites’ in the headline versus ‘anointing the sick’ in the article?

The trend tends to repeat. Prior to the crash landing, posters here (and elsewhere) make rock stars out of these folks. I almost feel bad for a certain Monsignor who has a ping list that is daily followed by an exclamation point. It’s almost like their followers help set them up for their fall by their misplaced if twistedly sincere devotion.

I'm not impugning exclamation points, mind you.

No problem. It’s the same thing. It used to be called Extreme Unction, and was for people imminently going to die. Now Sacrament of the Sick. You don’t have to be dying, just ill

Severe dementia precludes adequate grounds for accusations of guilt. There is no reason to assume guilt in this case. A man’s sterling reputation is ravaged by hatred.
Anti Catholic bigotry is rampant at FR. Shame!

So now every priest is guilty? The story stinks and makes no sense. I believe she has been coached to lie. Why? That is a good question. But really what makes me doubt this is the bit about him rubbing lotion on her. That does not pass the smell test.

My question is:

Why do we just automatically accept that it DID in fact happen?

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty in a court of law?

Are we just conditioned now by all the negative press towards the Catholic church/priests - who, by the way have been the No 1 Target of the Left for a very long time - that all it takes is an accusation, and it’s accepted as (no pun intended) gospel?

Let the guy have his day in court, and make her PROVE it.

Another black eye for the Catholic Church.
I can’t think of many things more ghastly, more disrespectful than to act this way upon someone close to death.
It’s betrayal in a manner most obscene.
Not only has the recipient been devastated, so, most likely has her family.
That may be defined as a Mortal Sin.
At very least, he should be defrocked, then imprisoned and excommunicated from the faith. We have enough selfish weirdos as it is.

IF it happened.

Needs to be proved in a court of law first.

Can you imagine being at that line-up?

All right, each of you step forward one at a time and say, "Per istam sanctan unctionem et suam piissimam misericordiam, indulgeat..."

Regards,

It took her five days to report this. Why so long? She was in hospice at the time she says this happens. Could she have been on medication that made her confused? How would the priest now he would have enough time to molest her? Hospices are staffed and patients checked on a regular basis. If her clothing or gown was disarrayed after the sacrament was given how did he explain that? If not, again how would he know there would be enough time to fix her clothing and the bedding?

Remember too according to one article she did not ask for a priest, her ex husband did. So we don’t know if she welcomed the ritual or if she felt any resentment that he had been sent to her in such a way.

You are the only person talking about severe dementia. How would someone with severe dementia even find this lady to deliver last rites? Shame on you for trying to defend a preditor
