Mayor Bill de Blasio charged Friday that the city’s specialized high schools practice “massive segregation” as the controversy grows over admissions criteria to the elite institutions.
“That’s why we’re doing something bold here, and we’re saying we’re not going to live by this old system that has perpetuated massive segregation — not just segregation, massive segregation,” de Blasio said on WNYC radio.

Another possible reason? In my East Coast city, the private expensive prep schools recruit the most gifted black students from the city to accomplish their diversity goals. The students are not available then, to attend the highly ranked public high schools.

I was just discussing this sort of thing with my former state senator who was voted out last Fall. With the Left these days, everything is about race and gender, demonstrated competence and achievement means nothing. So if the entrance exams lead to too few blacks on a percentage basis by population, prima facie the test is RACIST!
So much for meritocracy.
The root cause of this dispute is the value system is different between blacks and others. I’m Chinese American and of course I think using tests is the best and unbiased way to enroll students. The merit or content of character of a student is his or her grade and how well he masters what he was taught. But blacks don’t believe so. I understand where their argument come from. These two points of view are incompitable

The Asian parents' group has been putting up considerable resistance to Dumblassio's idiotic idea to not only scrap the "racist" test, but moreover, to reserve 25% of the seats in these precious elite schools for black and Hispanic students who failed the entrance exam. That means 25% of the students who passed the test and rightfully belong in those seats will be displaced, probably then to sit among low performing students who are fooling around in class and disrupting education for others in regular high schools, unless their parents can afford private schools. That would be a terrible shame.
And what of the black and Hispanic students placed into the elite high schools despite failing the entrance exam? I'll tell you exactly what will happen to them. They are woefully unprepared to read, write, and analyze at the extremely high level expected of students at these elite high schools. Many of the classes are conducted more at a college than a high school level and the students receive college credit for them. So the students who don't belong there in the first place will be frustrated. They will feel stupid that they cannot understand the teacher nor do well at the activities the other kids are galloping along doing. So they will act in the only way they know how to cope with the situation: they will act out and disrupt class for everyone. Then they don't have to feel inferior, because class is all messed up now, and no one is doing anything, not just them. Even though they should be subject to severe consequences for their behavior, DumblASSio has ruled that there are far too many minority students who are suspended or otherwise punished for misdeeds, so the schools will feel reluctant to mete out what the students really deserve as for punishment. So the other students will see that these kids can do whatever they want to do, with impunity. This is not a great example for them to stay on the straight and narrow either, kids being kids. After a few days of disrupting class, the black/Hispanic 25% will get bored doing it, and will simply cease attending class, where they feel dumb, and they will wander the halls, just as they did back in their regular schools, learning nothing and causing vandalism to school property. Meanwhile, the students forced out of their seats at this school, who were then shunted to a regular school, will languish instead of having the opportunity to use their sharp little brains to accomplish something.

They will indeed lose most of their seats. Rather, the commie leftists will take them away. Their kids who are in school now will be lucky if the commie leftists permit them to squeak through.
The late John Ogbu, a well-regarded Nigerian-American anthropologist, was one of the first academics to note the derision by Black youth for education, standard speech, and other attributes of "acting white." Ogbu attributed this to American born Blacks being an "involuntary minority" who had developed an oppositional culture, while immigrant Black communities embraced mainstream American culture and education as means of advancement. Any remedy for this handicap will require cultural changes in the American born Black community.
Of course, the idiotic and destructive Bill "the Commie" De Blasio cares not for any of that. What matters to him is the political gain to be had from playing along with Black oppositional culture and its hostility toward academic excellence in public schools. Those selective NYC schools and programs that foster Whites (and Asians) in "acting white" and getting a good education will now be delegitimized and diminished.
As academically unqualified and undisciplined Black students are admitted to elite public high schools, they will mostly prove unable to keep up with their White and Asian fellow students. To disguise this racially charged failure, the grades of Blacks will be adjusted and the academic quality of those schools will be subverted. This will cause more White flight from NYC and provide an additional spur to the city's decline.
If you are not scoring at the top and getting a’s in the hard classes you will not make it academically in these top schools. Simple as that.
It would be a disservice for them to put kids who are going to fail in these spots, and its a disservice to the top students who would lose these seats to unqualified kids.
Then can we say also that every school atheltic team practices mass segregation because they put people on those teams for their abilities to succeed?
Because its the same thing here. Only academics as opposed to athletics.
