After posting my comment above, I decided to upgrade in-place from 1903 to 1909. Very easy, surprisingly quick (less than 20 minutes), and everything still works.
For that very reason, I always wait as long as I can before upgrading an OS. Ran XP to the end, and now System 7.
I’ve been using NTI’s Backup EZ to USB drives in fire safes for years now. Never tried the disk image feature, but I probably will now. Thanks for the advice.
Windows 10 was released in 2015 barely even half-baked. It was a huge change from Win7 and nowhere near ready for prime time. The releases since then have all be a combination of: a) fixing the existing bugs, b) adding features that should have been there, and c) fixing the new bugs in the added features. Very little has been added that wasnt already in Win7 in some form, other than Cortana, which has turned out to be of dubious value, and of course the spyware telemetry.
