Let's talk about nuisance abatement laws. These are laws cities can use to shut down businesses that appear to draw more than their fair share of the criminal element.
If you're a fan of asset forfeiture, you'll love nuisance laws. By abdicating their law enforcement responsibilities, cities can have their lower cost cake and eat your property too. It's win-win for cities, who love to use laws like this to effectively seize property from citizens who have the misfortune to operate legitimate businesses in high crime areas.
Here's how it works in Dallas, Texas. The city says business owners must pay for their own security devices and personnel to keep their businesses free of criminals. No business will be compensated for these additional costs. All cops need to do is throw a couple of placards at the business and the city takes it from there. Criminal activity in the area is now the responsibility of businesses in the area. Can't get criminals to get off your property? Too bad. It's the city's property now.

“You either had to have about 5 guys pushing the car or be lucky enough to have a street on a hill..”
Yep... I drove an auto 66 Malibu with a bad starter around for a couple months one time, I was out of work and could not afford a new one. but I was in Tajunga ca at the time and every street in town was uphill or downhill, just had to be sure and park right. :)
started the car many times that way! always park on a little hill and you never have to worry about the car starting
That law works well in rural areas of the state where I live. It seems though, that in places like Harris county (Houston) and the DFW area, the local prosecutors don't seem to be able to read Texas Penal Code.
Don't you know, as a patron of the hotel, not to park your car in their parking lot?
How criminally negligent can you be? You're enticing criminals to commit crimes.
I'm surprised they even allowed you to drive a car. After all, criminals need something to vandalize or strip to keep them in business.
Of course, I'm being sarcastic but it reminds me of my bicycles being repeatedly stolen in college. When I was in college, I rode my bike to classes. I couldn't afford a car. Not really expensive bikes but the small tire ten-speed models popular back in the 60s. I lost 3 of them in 7 months. As a broke college kid, I couldn't keep buying new bicycles. I reported the thefts to the police but nothing ever happened. But one cop did give me an idea that eventually worked though. He said the ten speed bikes were too popular not to steal. He said hundreds were stolen on campus every month.
So I came up with a plan. I needed bike was less popular. I bought a used one speed, balloon tire bike with riser handle bars. I put tassels on the ends of the hand grips and spray painted the entire bike white. Everything. The chrome, the metal, the seat, even the rubber tires. It stood out like a sore thumb. And boy was it ugly. Not the kind of bike anybody would want to steal. Or even be seen riding.
I rode that bike for the three years I had left in school and no one ever bothered it. I didn't even lock it. Who's going to steal a bike that's ugly and stands out like a sore thumb? No one. But I didn't care. I just didn't want to have to be replacing the popular ten speeds I'd had before.
And that's a true story. 🤪
We have a commercial on the radio for Cars For Kids where this flat lined kid is singing accompanied by a guitar. You play that one loud enough and they’d be gone in a minute; it’d be a good one to play in an interrogation room. Just let the person sit there listening to it for just a few minutes and they’d confess to sinking the Titanic.
But to get back on topic, The gangsters were expanding their territories and commandeered our law abiding car club car wash hangouts. And we got these back using this technique. It made them so nervous and paranoid they went back home to their own hoods. They got tired of hitting the ground all the time thinking they were being shot at. lol
” spray painted the entire bike white. Everything. The chrome, the metal, the seat, even the rubber tires.”
Yep, well done. It works indeed. This is how I stopped fellow mechanics from stealing or claiming my tools. I painted everything, and I mean everything, polished Snapon and all including my tool boxes white. There was no mistaking who they belonged to after that and no one would even get caught borrowing them they were so ugly.
Funny how humans are more hung up on preferring aesthetics over common sense practicality.
*ping of interest*
The owner could make a complaint to the Feds that the city of Dallas and its police are in fact attempting to create a protection extortion racket and force businesses to “pay protection”. He could sue under the RICO extortion laws and force discovery! Now that would make Dallas and the corrupt PD wriggle uncomfortably!
He spray paints all his tools, equipment, ladders, etc, in the two colors for the same reason. He has very little theft or pilfering from his shop, as well.
I was born and raised in the Rochester, NY area...moved to Henrietta in ‘62 and much of the Suburb area was fairly Conservative...left for the AF in ‘74 and never looked back.
I wash cops for half price
My wash out Charlotte where the hobo camp is has issues
City treats them like City of God as does the Catholic Church
They vandalize me
Dopers and drinks and psychotics camping
Thats all so called homeless is
We used to institutionalize the sick and run off the addicts
Play Classical Music over a loudspeaker, that will do the trick.
Now the nuts and the addicts hold office or scream “Not muh President !” at their psycho hate rallies.

The Kars for Kids song is just about the worst, especially when the adult starts singing. For some reason he always sounds very creepy. The kids singing alone would be better.
That song would definitely clear away the criminals.
There are more fancy places being built there. That area was the Beverly Hills of Dallas until the 1920s when it began to decline, so the cycle begins again.
Some politicians buddy probably wants the land.
