Wondering if the stores are still out of tp and other paper products.

Shelves were bare at two east SF Bay Area Safeways I visited this afternoon. One store clerk said I’d have to be there at 7 a.m. (when the store opens) to get some.

Totally agree. If stores jack up the price of toilet paper, the people with a hundred rolls already at home will stop buying it. Those who really need it will pay the higher price. Eventually, things will settle back to normal.

Yes but they won’t fight for the TP and it has to go on the floor before your order is filled.

Last Tuesday we went to Walmart between 6am and 7am, and there was a good supply of TP. It’s seniors only Tues., 6-7 am.

Not only that, but a higher price will elicit more effort to produce TP and get it to people who want it.

Amazon also carries "these" to help with this challenging issue.

Want to know why we are short of it?

Because they ran most of the tissue mills to hell out of the country and now a lot of it comes from South of the border.

BTW, China is the worlds number one producer of paper products. Used to be the USA-not that long ago, but the price of doing business went up so high here because of EPA rules and regs that they shut down pulp and paper mills.

Kimberly Clark-the makers of Scott and Cottonelle, and one other brand, just about left the USA for Mexico and South America. They also make facial tissue as well as hand tissue as well as a lot of other products.

KC was thee largest producer of paper products in the upper midwest and the world-still are pretty big. But the good ol EPA made it nearly impossible for them to keep all their production in the USA.

If you order it now, it will arrive sometime after May 15. I just checked several of Amazon’s buttwipe offerings.

Don't know what the deal is in central Texas - we've been out of the same stuff over and over every day since about March 16th and it's getting old. People are getting kinda pissed about it.

Although that is a problem, agree we need to produce essentials in the US and not in Mexico, China, or some other foreign source.

That doesn’t explain the problem in this case. We had a bunch of idiots buying beyond what they needed, and the non-price gouging laws prevented the market from correcting for it. There are two different problems here, don’t mix them up.

We got enough for a while.

BTW, there was fist fight that broke out at Wally World that Tuesday. The locals took issue with the out of staters coming in and hoarding all that stuff.

“We had a bunch of idiots buying beyond what they needed,”

Oh no doubt, but the brands I mentioned will have to come from Mexico and the warehouses there.

Mesquite in Eastern Nevada - Smith’s and Wal-Mart almost identical: No tp, paper towels, napkins or Kleenex. Water and eggs are spotty and starting to appear. All those mentioned have a “one each” limit. Additionally, there a 10 cans/frozen veggies limit. Sign at Smith’s checkout says “keep two feet distance”. People in the Customer Service line in Wal-Mart kept the six foot distance. Everyone, including cashiers, in a good mood.

Town is gonna be hurting for quite a while - casinos are the big draw, and like Vegas, are shut down. Kinda spooky seeing empty parking lots where there’s normally a sea of autos. Associated motel lots are empty as well. Feel sorry for those workers, who are usually unskilled and live on tips. ALL eateries shut down, McDonalds only fast food place serving drive through.

I suspect a lot of snow birds will say “To Hell with it. If I gotta shelter in place, (RV) I might as well go back home and stay in my house.” More money leaving town.

Noontime traffic on I-15 Interstate VERY light - had two-three cars together, then a “bald spot” for a quarter or half mile and the another small group of cars. Even the usually numerous trucks were surprisingly scarce.

Do they take debit cards.

Yes, they'll take debit cards, and checks (upon approval) as well as cash. Just no credit cards.
