When I was a boy, our house had no AC do everyone slept with the window open to catch a breeze from the (hopefully) cool night air. Unfortunately, my room was on the back of the house nearest the chicken coop. It’s not so great when the rooster starts crowing at 3:30 a.m.
Their eyeball is bigger than their brain. It will take more than a couple of mornings.
As long as ‘’nature’’ is up at that hour and making noise you might as well too.
This story is from Singapore, where the housing is much more densely packed than in most of America, including where I live. Whether it’s illegal or not there I can’t say, but simply imposing the crowing on others was very ill-mannered, it seems to me.
To the owner’s credit (helps to read the article of course), he did get rid of the noise one way or the other after the author (anonymously) complained.
I’ve had chickens for near 25 years and live in the country but have neighbors.
I will not have another rooster that is ridiculously loud. If it is crazy loud, he’ll be soup.
I am sorry my neighbors put up w that noise all those years.
Never realized how much of a pain that crowing is to some people.
You don’t need a rooster to get eggs ! Stick w hens, and have a pleasant relationship with the neighbors.
Years ago when staying at my cousins farm, we were awakened by a rooster crowing at some unchristly hour. We had him for dinner.
Neuralink for roosters will fix this.
5:45 is not early.
If you want more sleep, go to bed when the rooster does.
Throw ice at annoying neighbor pets/critters. Pop them a few days in a row and the noise settles down.
If the Yelp does finally wake neighbor, the evidence had melted.
Just rattle the ice tray menacingly at critter from time to time with Clint Eastwood glare.
Shoot. Shovel. Shut up.
I lived in a house next-door to a crowing rooster. One of my roommates was an MD, so we snuck into the coop and spread a lot of ground up estrogen in the chicken feed.
Roosters are smarter than MDs. They didn’t’ go near the stuff.
If you do not have 50 feet or more of green space between your hens lockup and neighbors, you shouldn’t have any. I could hear mine, but it was muted until I got up and began throwing corn. Then it was a few hours until I heard them again, like when I came home. He never crowed in the heat of the day, but he did herd the ladies up onto my deck to await me.
That's pretty much the same thing.
Great screen name for someone with no roosters.
Ah ha! Not that I have a problem with noisy domestic fowl but that IS an interesting and novel tactic I must say.
I got a free night in a new hotel in st lucia due to a airline issue. The roosters crowed all night long.
A Real Raucous Rooster
That’s what shotguns are for....
