I love blue glass and also red.. I have my china cabinet in Fl all blue glass.. I have saved Noxema jars.. I have an old container of blue glass filed with Evening or Paris Talcum powder.. Does anyone remember that? I still love the smell.. Takes me back to my childhood and buying it in the five and dime stores..
I have a collection of old pharmacy bottles from the early eighteen hundreds that I got in the original pharmacy yard sale they were having... Most of them were filled with booze for medication.. Of course they are empty now, but the labels are still on them.. I think they are worth quite a bit today, as I have seen them in antique books. They are stored in the barn.. At least twenty of them..all sizes and shapes..
I have always loved colored glass and it was probably the reason I learned to do stained glass.. In fact the dishes I eat off of every day are clear Cobalt blue.. I have blue glass all over the house.. The cheaper glass I paint flowers on with glass paint..
I used to have a lot of red glass, but I have it all in the barn.. That barn is filled with so many goodies.. Don't tell Habs... lol
Those are old crock jugs and some did hold booze.. I have more on the beams.. You would love the 10 gallon crocks up in the barn that were Al's parents.. They put their salt pork and pickled eggs, etc in them.. They have the old wooden covers.. Of course I don't have room in the house for all this stuff..including all the stainless milk buckets from his Dad's farm...
All this stuff will be sold or seperated some day. The kids won't appreciate it as much as us older people..
I will take a photo of our old Ice box so you can see it.. It's the biggest one I've ever seen anywhere. Lead and porceline lined and all solid oak.. It was Al's Mom and Dads and he remembers when they used it.. We have had all the latches renickled.. (and they need a good polish right now.. lol)

Palo how could we ever learn with no past? We need the past to show us our way to the future.. Of course our parents were there.. how did we get here otherwise? Am I missing something? Help me Rhonda..
To: grannie9
hi chickie
the issue is did the past happen in reality or did we dream it
it matters in terms of forgiveness, which is what the book was aimed at
if the past was just a long series of dreams, but none of it happened in reality
then there is no grounds for grievances
because what we think our brother did to us did not happen in reality
it merely happened in our own dream
and we are the author of our own dreams
lol it took author of this book nearly 1000 pages to prove this true for me
but I was powerfully motivated
I'm sure very few people believe this
the purpose of the book was to get us to wake up
but I'm not sure it matters as much now, cause mass awakening is 10 years away, and we all will wake up then

Yikes...I had forgotten all about that Evening in Paris cologne, perfume, and talc..and of course, its in the cobalt blue bottles...How could I forget such a wondeful part of my youth...I felt like such a big girl, with my Evening in Paris cologne...thanks for that remembrance...
Sounds like you have a marvelous collection of absolutely wonderful things...Your home and barn are like big treasure troves...
You are right, about what happens to those things after we are gone...I expect, my son will take what he knows are important family pieces, and pieces with a history, and will sell the rest...and so be it...I guess I would rather those who love this kind of stuff, to have it, rather than my son just keep it because I told him to....
He said he will keep those pieces he knows the history of, and how important they may have been in our family history...but I know the rest will be sold...he says he will just open the front door, and invite folks in, to shop...
I expect most of my dolls will wind up that way...but again, I want my dolls to be loved, and get a good home...
I would love to see your old ice box...we never had an ice box...mom insisted that on having a fridge...
But in the apartment bldg where we first lived when I was a little girl, some of the other tenants had ice boxes...and I remember, the ice man coming, with his horse pulled cart, and huge blocks of ice under burlap bags...
The ice man would get a big block with his pincers, and carry it up the stairs...in the hot humid summer days of Chicago, I always liked to suck on ice...even tho, we did not have an icebox and buy ice from the ice man, that ice man was a kindly man...He always saw me sitting on the stoop, with my little handerchief in my hand, and he was always good about chipping off a good sized chunk off the block for me, to suck on...
I always like the ice mans ice, better than ice cubes from our little freezer...our freezer made cloudy cubes, but that ice from the ice man was crystal clear, and I loved to suck on it, and then hold it up and look through it...
Gads I was a silly little girl...I also expect that the ice man gave me that ice because he felt sorry for me...I was such a homely little girl, especially when I cut all that hair off the top of my head...not only was I homely, I was a stupid dolt, for that stunt...

I imagine finding Lulu in your bed, is lovely...when Helga was still able to jump up into the bed, she would sleep with us....as she got older, it was just too hard for her to jump up into the bed, and that is when we put her favorite quilt along side of the bed...
Sometimes she got it all into a big mound and slept on top of it...sometimes she tunneled underneath the quilt, and buried herself under it...
On a cold, chilly Washington nite, she would burrow under that quilt, and stay there for hours, snoring contentedly away...
I loved that big girlie, with all my heart...to this day, I still mourn her, more than any other dog I have ever had...I loved all my dogs, whether bassets, or mixed breeds...I have had many, many dogs in my life...
But there was just something so extra special about that Helga...I was so blessed to have her for nearly 13 years...
Sometimes I just go out, and visit her little grave out back...she is in her specially made coffin, lovingly wrapped in her favorite quilt...
She graced life with a flair, and made all who met her, just smile.....

lol I think it might have been chapter four which was titled the past did not happen
by that time I realized he was able to prove whatever he set out to prove
I remember thinking ''wow this would solve everything''
but I sure thought it would be tall order to prove
I must have had confidence he would somehow succeed
cause I remember my eyes lighting up, and thinking ''this'll be interesting''
I didn't know how he'd bring it off, but I knew he would
and he did
the problem is no one can read that book for a lark
(just to read interesting ideas)
people usually find that book at the end of their rope lol
so they're willing to concentrate
as he said in the book, ''your capacity for suffering is astounding, but it is not infinite''
people usually read that book when they have passed the astounding point, and realize they wont make it to infinite

You know, some of the old greek and roman philosophers also posed the same theory...that what passes for reality, is really only something that goes on in your own mind...and that whatever you are experiencing, is of your own mind, and your own will...
I am not sure if I buy into that or not..for who would actually create situations where one is absolutely miserable...I would rather be happy, or at least content...

You have been in fine form today...no doubt that exploding sun sent its vibrations and reactivated your funnybone ;-)

So glad you enjoy my Helga stories...Helga, herself would be pleased...she so loved people...if anyone came to the door, Helga just raised a ruckus, until they pet and praised her...I always had to ask, whoever came to the door, to please pet her, so she would hush her screaming...
It seems she just had this scream whenever anyone came to the door...she wanted to be noticed, and made herself quite vocal, in that area...it took so little to make her happy...just a few pets, and a few kind words, and she was herself again, happy to go her way, usually back to sleep, or to her food trough...
She was my dear girl, and I am so glad that Princess Lulu, makes me smile, when I miss my Helga...
To: andysandmikesmom
lol now I understand why Lulu carries on so when someone comes to door
next time I will ask them to pet Lulu
so she can be happy too
To: andysandmikesmom

To: andysandmikesmom

Does this mean Bil still tends to the kitties? I thought you had decided to get rid of them, but being the softies you are, decided to keep them. That means more of those special runs through the gauntlet ;-)
To: palo verde
Good nite then Palo, you sleep well and we'll see you tomorrow,as you embarrass Cap't AC even further when you reveal all his fantasies about nubile lesbians ;-)
To: palo verde
If you dont make it back, have a good rest..I need to go pretty soon myself...Dizzy is making his presence known, and the hubby wants to show me something...
So perhaps I will return, perhaps not...
Hope everyone has enjoyed their July 4th...
In about an hour or so, I expect all the kids in area here, will be out in full force, with their fireworks...
And as Westy previously said, the streets will be strewn with fireworks garbage...
