Mom is checking in again - her puter is near gone, but this is the latest from the Great Northwest:

Hi Jim...since I cannot post or even lurk on FR, thought I would just give you an update on what is going on around here.....I have been working at the computer, trying to get it up and running correctly, and no dice....something is drastically wrong, and all I seem to be left with is the ability to use my email....when Andy comes down on Thanksgiving, I will give him the task of figuring out what is wrong....he will probably roll his eyes, as he does, when I start to cry, which I always do when the computer acts weird, and then he will set about trying to find out what is wrong....either he can fix it, or I will just have to buy a new computer...

The weather here in the Pacific Northwest today, is cool, rainy, cloudy, windy, just plain nasty, as it often gets here, in the fall...but we expect the weather to be like this, and just go about our business as usual....I guess the only time the weather affects us, is when it snows, which it rarely does....then we all get hysterical, and hide out in our homes, until the snow is gone, which it usually, within a few days or so....the people who are out in the snow and ice, either drive faster than normal, and wind up causing accidents, and skidding all over, or they drive slower than a snail moves, and cause accidents anyway....if it snows on a workday of BigDoms, he just simply takes an emergency leave day, and settles in for some serious unexpected beer drinking time...

I am cooking a great big giant turkey tomorrow....since the price of turkeys is now 23cents a pound its dirt cheap....and when its so cheap, BigDom and I always have a pre-Thanksgiving turkey....we both love turkey and could eat it day after day, so tomorrow, we will have a big roasted turkey to feast on, and BigDom will have turkey sandwiches for the rest of the week, and we will munch on the large platter of leftovers....

Then come Thanksgiving and we will do the same...call us whacky, but we love Turkey....of course, the turkey is always accompanied by a giant ham and all the fixings....yum yum....and I always buy two extra turkeys to store in the freezer, one for Christmas and one for next years Easter dinner....I just cannot pass up buying lots of turkeys when the price is so low....its just lucky that we all love turkey, and I always look for new and creative ways to fix it.....turkey tacos, turkey with tomatoes and black olives, and veggies, turkey sandwiches with lots of mayo, lettuce, tomatoe, and red onion for lunch, turkey soup, with lots of good ingredients, turkey chili, and on and on....gobble, gobble.....its a wonderful time of year....

Mr. Dizzy, is still so happy to be home, and realizes that he still has me and BigDom, with occasional visits from Andy, to keep him constantly surrounded with attention....now that BigDom has gotten up and left for work, Dizzy settles into where he was sleeping on the bed, and he will probably stay there for several hours...he takes over the bed, once it is unoccupied....he will be happy to see Andy on Thanksgiving, I am sure...of course, Andy does not baby him as I do...Andy likes to twirl Dizzy high in the air, and then chase him around the house...Dizzy of course acts all scared, but in truth, he loves Andy, and loves the attention even if it involves twirling and chasing games....if truth be told, most people would probably run, if chased by Andys big 6'5", 250lb frame....hes one big boy, with great big feet, and being chased by him, must be a scarey incident....

Anyway, thats all for now....say hi to all DD folk, and tell them I am anxious to return, hindered by a malfunctioning, irritating computer....love those computers when they work correctly, but hate them when they act up....We dont realize how we have come to rely on our computers until they dont work anymore.....makes me wonder what we did before we had our computers....

Take care

You that have her e-addy give some live support there - Dom's at work, she can't shop, and needs some help until Andy gets things righted for her. Thanks, JL

It really does sound like she has the Klez or Nimbda virus on her hardrive. It is what I had.She will have to call in a guy to clean it off her system and then check for damage. And probably install a good anti-virus package. She is probably losing memory at a huge rate.

I just wrote her a long letter.. How did you find your virus? Did it show up on a virus scan, or was it hidden? I'm wondering if that's what hit me.. I have found nothing tho, and have done several scans..

Well.. it's too late now.. I have another Dell on the way.. I love those puters...and I will love having XP again.. As much as I hated it at first I got to love it.. ;)

By the way.. that is not a toilet... that's a cesspool.. lol

The virus would be hidden.there is a diagnostic disk by Symantec called FixKlez, but what she should is acll in a local computer services technician who could do onsite repair work.It would take about an hour or two if its just a garden variety Klez.I bet the Nimbda is the worst one of the two. They have to be removed and all corrupted files fixed or deleted before you can run and install any virus software.

If there is a local computer store that can recommend a name for such testing and repairs, she should find out.Go that route first.

If you have it on your machine, normal Norton stuff won't detect it.It's already corrupted.

Yes.. you're probably right.. I know I had the Klez once and it was a bugger to get rid of. I think I may have had it quarantined on this puter too.. You know, after six months, I just can't remember..

All I know is the one I got on the day I opened this was the Six (clicks, something) from Hell virus. It is nothing and it shouldn't have caused me any problems once trapped and deleted.. I went to SARC and did what they told me.. I still don't know why I slowed down tho.. It was loaded with software last year and running great, and this year it's like I lost all my memory.. Has me stumped.. Sooo.. I refused to give anyone else any more money and bought a new one..and gave up.. Hey, it's four years old and not a great one anyway..

Fascinating read on Webster Lake - thanks for that one.

Garn - is it just me, or have you captured the elusive red X today? When does the new machine arrive?

A tremendous Tuesday to all venturing through the Doorway.
