Word For The Day, Tuesday 1/14/03
1/14/03

Posted on 01/14/2003 6:57:49 AM PST by Bella_Bru

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

roister\ROY-stur\, transitive verb:

1. To engage in boisterous merrymaking; to revel; to carouse.
2. To bluster; to swagger

Etymology: Roister is probably from Middle French rustre, "a boor, a clown; clownish," from Latin rusticus, "rustic," from rus, "country."

OK, keep this story in mind next time you think you live in a roisterous kind of neighborhood...

By the way, just how disturbed should we be that radiation detection devices have been quietly installed thoroughout New York City? Or is that supposed to make us feel more secure?
