I wouldn't mind sending a few spares.

How about I get 25, and the ones that don't have names, I can put "Merry Christmas" or "Ho Ho Ho" , or something on them.

means they were sent back outta the combat zone..."rear" is a relative term... to a guy on the front lines, "the rear" is anything from a support area, to a base camp in Kuwait, to statedide...

soldiers like the "rear" fer some reason...

I still can't believe you did that! What a nice touch...I really love it. If you were to see my kitchen, you'd know how much I like it - I don't have a LOT of them, but I'm a big fan of interesting mugs (yes, my sister included...;)

I have a couple of Polish pottery mugs I got in Germany, a big earthenware mug with a rooster on it that I got in Italy, one that says "I love my tea" that I rescued from the "didn't sell" pile at the parish Christmas bazaar I worked at last year, a German mug with a Christmas scene on it (not a stein...somehow missed out on those...) and now I have a vey cool pumpkin mug, plus a big bag of chocolate - and I think everyone here knows how much I like chocolate!

VENI-VIDI-VICI

Or as my wife likes to say Veni, Vidi, Visa...

Roughly translated as: "I came. I saw. I did a little shopping."

Good morning! Still on a high from yesterday. And still haven't heard any more about Bill, but I'm assuming they may have spent the night somewhere. Dad hadn't heard from them, either, and answered the phone almost before it rang, so I'm guessing he's a little tense right now. Be praying for him, too.

I'm just glad no one was hurt.

Well, since it was in the movie, and not in the book...I have no idea what PJ was thinking. Tolkien is always pretty clear for me to pick up.

In the book, ARAGORN has a premonition that Gandalf would suffer some bad thing if they entered Moria.

"And I don't wish to enter it even once,' said Pippin.
'Nor me,' muttered Sam.
`Of course not! ' said Gandalf. 'Who would? But the question is: who will follow me, if I lead you there?'
'I will,' said Gimli eagerly.
'I will,' said Aragorn heavily. `You followed my lead almost to disaster in the snow, and have said no word of blame. I will follow your lead now - if this last warning does not move you. It is not of the Ring, nor of us others that I am thinking now, but of you, Gandalf. And I say to you: if you pass the doors of Moria, beware!"

Once they are in Moria, when they encounter the Balrog of Morgoth, Gandalf can't figure out what it is at first. But then when he does, he says:

"'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. `Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. `What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'"

I always loved this part...what does Gandalf understand? Is it merely that he finally understands what he couldn't figure out at first or does he understand what is going to be asked of him?

Then, Aragorn says:

'Alas! I Fear we cannot stay here longer,' said Aragorn. He looked towards the mountains and held up his sword. `Farewell, Gandalf! ' he cried. 'Did I not say to you: if you pass the doors of Moria, beware? Alas that I spoke true!

Awesome story.
