July 20, 1983, roll call vote 259, House of Representatives, Motion to Censure Congressman Gerry Studds (D-MA) -
Following future Dem House Committee Chairs voting "no" -
Conyers, Frank, Lantos, Miller, Obey, Rahall, and Waxman.
Leadership voting "no"
Hoyer
Chair of DSCC, then House member, Schumer "no"
Voted instead for a watered down reprimand.
Great Job! Please submit this as a flashback on Drudge
Flack this needs to be sent to Rush Limbaugh and other Right Wingers that still have a spine. This could have legs, especially against Schumer.
Yes Drudge would headline this, especially with Schumer involved.
A blast from the past.
How now, brown cow?
Couldn't agree more.
Lunch break is over, better get back to your DNC Cubicle.
> How do we get this on the networks?
What a silly question!
btw...
Gerry Studds
http://pedia.nodeworks.com/G/GE/GER/Gerry_Studds/
Gerry Studds is a retired American politician. He
served as a Democratic Congressman for
Massachusetts until 1996. He was one of the first
openly homosexual politicians in United States
national politics.
He is perhaps best remembered for his role in the
Congressional Page sex scandal in 1983, when he
and Representative Dan Crane were censured by the
House of Representatives for separate sexual
relationships each had had with congressional
pages who were each 17, and thus minorss, at the
time of the relationship. Studds refused to
apologize for the relationship and in fact called
a press conference with the former page, in which
both stated that they were consenting adults at
the time of the relationship in 1973, and that it
was therefore not the business of others to
censure them for what they considered their
private relationship. Studds continued to be re-
elected to Congress until his retirement in 1997.
Good find that Brit Hume would read on The Grapevine I bet...
DemocRATS get censured, Republicans are asked to resign. Great post.
I already e-mailed this thread to Drudge but everyone that reads this post should send some version of this story to Matt so it won't go unnoticed. "The squeaky wheel gets greased" as they say.

Hey, maybe I'm dumb, but you are saying, aren't you, that the future D leaders voted FOR censure for Studds? That is, GOPFlack's claim is false?
