Abe Lincoln Black Republican Caucus Letter of Endorsement Will Be Delivered to the Republican National Committee Headquarters at 11:30 a.m. Today, Wednesday, September 22

DALLAS, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The Abe Lincoln Black Republican Caucus (ALBRC), a group of young urban Black gay Republicans, voted today in a special call meeting in Dallas, Texas, to endorse President Bush for re- election.

The ALBRC was co-founded by Don Sneed, a member of the Log Cabin Republicans, to address the political issues and needs of young Black gay Republicans, who he says: "Our voices are never heard, yet we exist and are growing in numbers." The endorsement was fueled by the Log Cabin Republicans' refusal to endorse President Bush. "We think that the 'Republican Tent' is inclusive and there is room for differences, but one does not pick up their marbles and go home if there are a few points of disagreement," stated Anthony Falls, Republican Precinct Chairman -- Dallas and the ALBRC National Spokesperson. "The ALBRC does not support marriage for gays, yet we do support and call for recognition of domestic partnerships," he stated.

"Although we are small, have meager resources and are not as widely known as our counterparts in the Log Cabin Republicans, we do exist, we have families and friends who listen to our voting recommendations and we have the capacity to get our message up and out through the worldwide webcasting of our community television show: the 'ALBRC Community Informer,'" stated Don Sneed, who is also a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (a Bush Appointee). "With this election as close as it is, especially in the battleground states, any movement of the Black vote towards President Bush, could make a significant difference," stated Sneed. "We are determined to use whatever resources we have to get the word out, especially to Black voters of why a vote for Bush is a vote for economic, social and political self- upliftment."

The "ALBRC LETTER OF ENDORSEMENT" will be delivered to the Republican National Committee Headquarters at 11:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, September 22 by Mr. Sneed, who is also an AIDS Community Activist in attendance at the "Breakfast of Champions" being sponsored by AIDS ACTION of Washington DC.

Ok, they aren't a big group, w/o a lot of clout, but, being Republicans, they probably have jobs, so they aren't looking to take any money out of my pocket. And, they're committed to talking to friends and family about voting for Bush.

Fine by me.

I don't know why this announcement makes me smile, tho. : )

Hey if this can help Bush get more of the Black vote I say why not. I don't think the RNC will turn down this endorsement.

"Log Cabin" is a reference to the log cabin in which Abraham Lincoln was raised. There is a popular myth that has been circulating for decades that Lincoln was a closet homosexual. Abe, of course, was a Republican. Ergo, Log Cabin Republicans.

I have a tendency to swing libertarian, so I say a vote that is made for the right reasons is always welcome. These men seem to genuinely care about other issues than just their sexual orientation, and that means that I will judge their vote based on that information.

They have explained it in an appropriate manner - they believe that a vote for Bush is the best vote for America.

That was my thought! Only 10% of Blacks vote Republican, maybe 2% or so of people of any race are gay, and maybe 10% of gays vote GOP, so that's what, 2 people?

A lot of you guys are making fun of this group and their announcement, but I give them full credit and applaud them.

They did not take a stance that was reflexively easy and popular, especially given the whiteboys Log Cabiners jumped ship.

This group could just have melted into the woodwork, gone along with the bigger group and not be heard from. Instead, they go ahead and break with the big guys and stand firm in support of Pres Bush.

So why are all you yahoos jumping on THEIR CASE???

They are just as entitled to proclaim their allegiance to President Bush as you are.

Congrats guys.

I agree. Take the vote. Keep the ridicule to yourself. Just as democrats should be more concerned about WWIV than after school programs and universal health care, I think Republicans should be more concerned about winning the election and WWIV than what someone does in their bedroom.

It seems to me a lot of things that used to seem important lost a lot of importance after 9/11. Not advocating we give up the culture war, but it's not at the top of my list anymore. IMHO
