Regarding the Internet rumors, no member of Freeman's staff made any derogatory or discriminating comments towards Jenna or Barbara Bush. We are a non-partisan establishment and pride ourselves on having a diverse clientele. The Bush twins or any member of the first family are welcome to join us for dinner anytime.
I called and asked for verification or denial of this story and was told they would not comment. The hostess who answered did say that " the customer knows". The manager said that "due to privacy concerns they will not comment upon anyone's visit there".
The restaurant owner:
A lot of cities have their own civil rights laws which are broader than federal law, and political affiliation is often a protected category in those cities.
Spotted on the 16th,
but NOT posted on that web chat room
til the 19th?
Not buying this one.
One restaurant I wont be going to in NYC..
Absolutely. But that's not illegal, nor should it be in my opinion. Freedom of association and all that. Unlike the left, we shouldn't need to run to the all-powerful government when somebody does something we don't like.
If this had happened to Chelsea at some Republican owned Restaurant in Dallas, it would have been splashed all over the news, AP would have seen to that another example of Republican rudeness.
What is really nice is the fact that if this story about Bushes daughters is true it will get just as much publicity; Because the days of the media concealing the abuse of conservatives or religious people is over.
Also I have been happily surprised about how often the left wing perpetrators have had to back down and offer up apologies when their misdeeds are exposed.
I agree..but if it is true wouldn't it be ironic if a ton of people made reservations to this place on a Friday or Saturday night or even on Thanksgiving then they all came down with a bug just a few hours before their reservation and didn't show up???
Freeman's, owned by first-time restaurateurs William Tigertt and Taavo Somer...
There's a place to post "user reviews" on their site. How 'bout it folks?
Looks like alot of Freepers have posted their opinions about right on the Gawker website. Some of them are fantastic!
You guys are nuts making outrageous comments and "threats" over something that is rumor only. We have greater things to accomplish than to give our ideological opponents a hissy-fit that validates their skewed opinions of us to begin with.
Yes, I know, as well as states. As an example, federal law does not protect against discrimination based on sexual preference. It isn't a violation of the Civil Rights Act to discriminate against homosexuals.
But my own state, Maryland, proscribes just that.
My comment was that I didn't see a claim based on the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 or other related federal laws.
Freemans phone number is: 212-420-0012 -- I talked to the manager he said "I can't comment". I think this place needs Freeping?
Thanks weenie! I love learning "new" words... and Apocryphal is new to my lexicon anyway! BTW I agree with you....
WHERE ARE YOU? You keep popping up on threads but never respond to my questions. You're like Kilroy!
Must be a Midwest hunting lodge that the Heinz Kerrys frequent.
The reviews already there by actual diners weren't very good. Sounds like their service isn't very good.
I picked it up about 5 years ago...good word for the Kerry candidacy...
Paging Mr. Jack Hauff.
Are you saying the website is the creation of the owner?
Or what? I must have missed something...Apart from some poorly done (and trite) photos and nihilistic jargon, there is nothing there, there.
Yeah, if it were me, I'd get the hell out of Dodge. If I were them, I'd head back to a good restaurant in Texas!
Yes, they named the Restaurant,(FREEMANS) what do you think we're talking about?
I see that they have customer reviews...for those Freepers who are geographically challenged.
The girls are lucky. They could have been served food with spit in it.
Sounds like verification to me.
Agreed. There are many battles to face. This isn't one worth fighting.
And those that call the place have too much time on their hands.
The two of them are welcome at my home ... especially the one with the darker hair.
I saw a pair of them one time escorting Janet Reno walking on Shelter Island in San Diego. They were small and unobtrusive and it didn't even occur to me that they were SS until long after they had walked past. They don't try to look like muscle. But I wouldn't want to show up on their radar as a threat!
Reno smiled at our kids.
I'm thrilled to hear that. That along with the election results should be quite humbling to the MSM.
I bet that the Secret Service Agents were glad that the Bush Twins were refused service at this place.
Does anyone know about Jenna Bush's political leanings? I know her, but I never discussed politics with her. Well, I did talk about 9/11 and the World Trade Center.
i've been noticing it too... it's so not new... we've been saying "smashed potatoes" for eons in our family...
I read an older People mag interview with the whole family. The girls both say they're not that political.
Barbara said her dad's "cute...especially when he wears T-shirts and jeans, then he's the cutest." LOL
Now if these had been Al Sharpton or Jesse Jacksons kids.....
What would he serve them with, broccoli and stuffing?
One way to get noticed is to make a res and then call in a day or two to apologetically cancel. This type of behavior is appreciated by owners who lose bucks holding tables for no shows.
The owner BTW was rude and thoroughly uncool, but Manhattan hot spots are and have been known for these traits. A famous story about Josephine Baker, Walter Winchell, and 21 tells a lot about NYC chic.
Won't get fooled again...
You can d@$mn sure bet on that, their s$%is in the wind next time.
I figure that. Never talked politics with them anyways.
"You should also tell them that the food and service is lousy. We could start a miny urban legend about the place."
What the hell is wrong with me? I just don't see the point of smearing and slandering a restaurant for any reason.
You guys are psycho.
I was born Republican, and I'm guessing that the Bush twins were, too. Doesn't that count as ethnic origin?
Maybe Bloomberg can send unforgiving health inspecters there for a spot inspection.
