Mexican troops cross border for hurricane relief
WISTV.com ^ | September 8, 2005 | Bryce Mursch

Posted on 09/08/2005 11:04:59 AM PDT by Freebird Forever

The Mexican army has entered the United States for the first time since 1846.

A military convoy crossed the Rio Grande into Texas Thursday to bring aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina. The unit is headed for San Antonio.

The convoy is carrying water treatment plants, mobile kitchens and supplies to feed storm victims.

The 45 green vehicles will apparently be used to provide water, meals and other help for hurricane survivors from the New Orleans area.

A Mexican naval mission is sailing for New Orleans. Mexico says another convoy and another ship are ready to go.

Back in 1846, Mexican troops briefly marched into disputed territory along the border with Texas which had joined the US ten years earlier.

I thank them for their aid,
But I'll bet they didn't even have to slow down at the US border.

Just wait till the Salvadoran troops get here. They're just getting you used to the idea of foreign troop "helping" us. We'll see blue helmets one of these days.

I'm not sure they really thought that out, we're still kinda sore about the whole Alamo thing here in Texas.

Sounds very generous, if the intentions are truly good. Presumably we'll be doing a head count before they leave?

I find that very disturbing.

I welcome all humanitarian aid, but would prefer to have it come from civilian sources.

Knowing what we do about the Mexican military, I wonder how much coke and heroin is packed in those 45 vehicles.

"Mexican troops on U.S. soil? I find that very disturbing."

What is even more disturbing is that this could only be happening with the concurrence of the White House. Now Bush can point to how helpful the Mexican government has been and will no doubt use it in some manner to help push his "guest worker" shamnesty plan.

The American people should be outraged.

That's exactly what's happening. A little opportunity presents itself to get the "Americans" used to the idea of seeing foreign guys with guns driving around their cities and towns.

It would have been an unthinkable embarrasment 30 years ago for the mighty United States to "need" aid from a dump like Mexico. And the idea of foreign troops on U.S. soil...particularly from this country...would have been scorned.

Clearly someone has decided to exploit the situation.

Wonder how many will stay.

No matter how many of them stay, not a peep of protest will be forthcoming by the White House, that you can be sure of.

GWBush welcomes anything Mexican with open arms, no matter what the cost to American taxpayers. We've been sold out.

I love the lines from the CFR's description of that paper:

"When the leaders of Canada, Mexico, and the United States met in Texas recently they underscored the deep ties and shared principles of the three countries"

Uh....what "deep ties" and shared principles?

The only deep ties we have are the ties of their citizens who barged the gates and got in. Kinda like the deep ties that a burglar has to his victim's household.

And as far as "shared principles"...if we had any, the U.S. would look like Mexico.

I make it a rule never to drink any thing from Mexico unless it's served with limes. Always be careful, just because it has a dead worm in it doesn't mean it's OK to drink....1 tequila,2 tequila, 3 tequila, floor.

Recall that I said "get used to the idea". Later....they bring the iron. For "joint maneuvers and familiarization".

You pointed out earlier that they enter the U.S. all the time. I don't know if you're referring to the "unauthorized incursions" that happen or if you're referring to something else that is planned and coordinated. In the latter case, I have never seen something like this either in Southern Arizona or Southern California, even for ceremonial purposes.

But I firmly believe that they are being allowed in precisely to soften up opinion, and that the humanitarian aspect is just an excuse, used because it is available. The actual amount of supplies they have is essentially irrelevant, and is symbolic only.

Yes, I was referring to the "unauthorized incursions".

They also enter for training. It happens often in Arizona.
