PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old single father whose struggle raising his toddler daughter was featured in People magazine has been killed in Philadelphia.
Terrell Pough was shot in the head on his way home from work Thursday night and later died at Temple University Hospital, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Police said they have no suspects but do have a possible lead. No further details of the slaying were released.
The August issue of People profiled Pough, who worked as the night manger at a local restaurant while attending school full-time and raising his daughter, Diamond, who will be 2 on Nov. 27.
"She's what I work for, what I live for, why I wake up," he told People. "She's everything."
Diamond, who had full-custody of his daughter, had planned to work in construction after graduating next June.
"If something ever happens to me, no one can ever tell her that her dad didn't take care of her," he told People.
Post the post Howlin is talking about. Having trouble finding it?
Howlin is a liar, I never said anything about Harriett Miers.
Howlin is lying. You don't support lying do you, or maybe you do.
No I am saying you don't know the circumstances of this young man's life that you should be attacking him. He did NOT act like the vast majority of the fathers of these children but rather like a responsible person. Why? Why was he different? How did he wind up different from the less responsible? Why didn't he feel justified in letting the taxpayer pick up the tab for his mistake? These are the really interesting questions completely ignored by the self righteous.
I don't care what you know or don't know about OOW births but was speaking of this young man's story.
The article in "People" went to great lengths to demonstrate just how difficult it was for this young man and his little daughter. How hard he had to work, how early he had to get up, how little free time he had, etc., so I don't think most teens would, necessarily, be encouraged to have children based on his example.
By all accounts he seemed an exemplary young man. I am so sorry some criminal took his life.
Actually, that was sent to me in Freepmail.
See, I get them, too!
Admit you made a mistake or quit lying about what I said about Harriett Miers. I never said anything about her.
FOR THE READING IMPAIRED: I'm not going back through your posts; I said you said it and I stand by it.
Being called a liar by you is kind of like being called honest by Bill Clinton.
I'm not arguing about anything. I want to know how you came to the conclusion that through the People article the slain father 'bragged' about his sins (post #266)...particularly since you have repeatedly stressed the fact that YOU have NOT READ the People article.
Get over losing the Harriett Miers debate...I cannot even belive you came on this thread and spewed that garbage...it speaks volumes about how you are. Some people cower to you but you do not intimidate me.
Once again, post the comment or stop lying.
No, I don't. So stop making the accusation, OK?
Thanks for summarizing what the article was about. From it, I didn't get the impression that the father was 'bragging' about his sins.
He freely spews out the accusation, while at the same time admitting that he doesn't have a clue as to whether or not it's true.
All in the name of morality, too.......
I didn't lose any Harriet Miers debate.
In fact, I was right; you all showed your true colors and now there's a backlash against you and your ilk in the Republican Party.
You are so high school U.S.A.
Ya, right...but know this, I did not even participate in any of the debates, so quit saying I did. You are lying when you attribute that comment to me. I never said it.
This young man did not commit murder for which he will have to take the consequences. Tookie may have turned his life around (although perhaps not) and if he did, good for him. That does not let him out of the consequences of his sin.
This young man had a child out of wedlock. He was dealing with the consequences in a way that he hoped would break the cycle. He did not ask to be let off of the consequences of his mistake like many many others who abandon their children to their girlfriends or worse, the state. He was, apparently, killed in that process. If more information comes out that he was not what he appeared to be, then fine. Until then, I refuse to condemn this man.
To say appreciation for what this young man was trying to accomplish is the same as jumping on the Tookie Bandwagon is disingenuous at best. I do not want to back you into a corner on this because I know it is hard to back down. But I can not in good conscience let that comparison stand.
One more thing: To do what this man was trying to do, is quintessentially American. To rise above one's circumstances, to do the best with what you have, to take the second chances that life offers you. That, in my mind, is part of what it means to be conservative. If you believe conservative is never making a mistake, never appreciating those who have less and what they must overcome, never accepting anything but perfection, well...then quite honestly I don't qualify.
Getting that "secret" Freepmail again, I see.
One only needs to read THIS thread to see the beating you've taken; nobody is calling me deranged.
but this person pointed out that you had your head handed to you on the Harriett threads...
Actually, I did not; after it became apparent that you all intended to smear that good woman, I just ignored you all, as did most of FR.
Please know my comparison to Tookie was in jest. I agree with most of what you said.
One only needs to read the Harriett threads to see what a beaten you took and in the end lost with another nominee being names. Gosh, you are still not over it...that is fine, that is your problem, but STOP trying to drag me into it.
I never said anything about Harriett, you are a liar.
Anyway, it was never my intent.
Please know that I never said anything about Harriett Miers at any time. Howlin is lying. And if you stick around FR long enough, you will find out on your own how she is. You may think you are her friend now....but time has a way of correcting that. Just ask some of those who did participate in the Harriett threads......
Good Day and Happy Thanksgiving.
We were waiting on those...I am supposed to tell you to get your own original ideas....that was used by someone who used to post here in the past...quit stealing her ideas...
I don't see anybody here sticking up for you. I guess your friends don't bother with that, huh?
I am supposed to tell you to get your own original ideas....
Are you channeling? Why don't your "friends" have the balls to speak up?
that was used by someone who used to post here in the past...quit stealing her ideas...
I've been using that since 1998 for people like you. Get over it.
Not only does YDH look bad, she gives others yet another excuse to paint the entire board as a pack of loons.
Well, she was the most vocal of the trashers of this boy (but she always is, but there were a couple of others who joined in the fray.
Tasteless and very unChristian like.
The very ones people point to to "prove" how nasty conservatives are.
You constantly tell people to back up what they have said when they say you said something...remember this thread the next time you tell someone that. Everyone else will remember.
You are a liar, Howlin...plain and simple.
Another lie.....I think someone else was using it before you.
Gawd, you are petty, aren't you?
I've been using that since I got here in 1998; get OVER it.
Are you truly an idiot or do you just play one on Free Republic? Tookie is a cold blooded murderer and founder of a criminal enterprise that plagues the United States to this very day. The victim in this story, had premarital sex. How dare you even compare the two?
Read the post in context, who it was posted to, and then know it was in jest....
This neener neener nanner crap you have put on this thread is absolutely inane.
Anyway, though, it is a Holiday week and I feel guilty for being on the computer all day and getting nothing done really. I never do that!!!! But I will cut my self some slack since I am on school break.
I am sure someone will email me if she ever does posts the comment she swears I made. If not, I am sure I will also hear about that.
This isn't about my morality. I was not featured in a national magazine. It's about backhandedly promoting immorality while making it appear moral. What this young guy did AFTER his mistake was a good thing - no one is arguing that. What do you tell your children? That it's okay to have sex at 15? That it's fine if a child is raised in a single family home? That there are no detrimental effects on children raised in single family homes with the other parent totally absent from their life? That's not what I want my kids taught.
You clearly feel that you can make any false accusation you want to defend your position, and I don't call that moral.
The absurdity of your 'backhanded' accusations of me, are beyond the pale.
From what I've seen of you on this thread, I really think you need to reevaluate your relationship with the Lord. You're inside out here.
"For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." Matthew 23: 12
The words of Jesus, given to you by a sister in Christ. You are WAY out of line, and I recommend you spend some time in prayer about the things you have said here.
Thank you for your advice.
btw, I already made it perfectly clear that I am as much a purist when it comes to extramarital sex as anyone alive. My husband and I married in our late twenties and had 'saved ourselves' for each other (not all that easy in the '60's and '70's). We have raised four children to adulthood in purity and morality. It is a high priority for us all.
They even made the choice not to date, to make sure that they weren't tempted in this foul, putrid world, to do something they would later regret.
But that has NOTHING to do with my admiration for this young man who corrected his behavior and straightened up. The two things have nothing to do with each other, and your twisting them to make some sordid connection just stinks.
I hate it when people who call themselves Christians deliberately offend as you just did. And I wonder why anyone who names the Name of Jesus Christ would do so.
Rest in Peace
My prayers go up for all who now mourn Terrell's passing.
If you want on/off my prayer ping list, please let me know. All requests happily honored.
My prayers are offered for this young man who was so tragically killed. May the Lord bring comfort and strength to his family, and watch over and protect his young daughter.
I'm sorry we see things differently but I'm not sorry for my opinion. It's just that - my opinion and I'm sorry you got so upset about it.
No.. you're a broken record.. over and over and over...
Your grandmother may have been involved in some nefarious activities that led to her death. But we'll withhold judgement - for now.
As Christians we are to be encouragers.....uplifters........a sweet fragrance. We are NOT to lord our superior morality over others under the guise of stating our 'opinion.'
I will always get upset when the name of Christ is besmirched by those who claim it.
Do you think I think I am superiorly moral? Then you've missed my point completely. But it really isn't worth getting upset over.
Yes. I do. You've made that VERY clear.........repeatedly.
And I think you're unforgiving and arrogant too.
Happy Thanksgiving, mlc. You can be thankful that you're not a sinner like the rest of us folks....
(Read Luke 18: 9-14 if you don't know what I'm referring to).
Conversation over.......I'm going out of town. Think about the way you come across. It may not be what you intend it to be.
I join in prayer for his daughter and all who are suffering from his homegoing!
"If something ever happens to me, no one can ever tell her that her dad didn't take care of her," he told People.
Tragic news... it brought tears to my eyes. May he rest in peace, and may God guide and protect his little girl.
She sure as heck DID comment on the Harriet threads. So who's the liar?
