MOSCOW, February 7 (Itar-Tass) -- President Vladimir Putin does not support the idea to close the Red Square mausoleum and bury Vladimir Lenins body.
I wish to find solutions, which would enjoy support by the majority of citizens and promote reconciliation and unity of the nation rather than a split, Putin told the Spanish media.
I visited [Francisco] Francos grave when I was in Spain in the middle of the 1990s. Opinions may differ, and there are two completely different things. I am against drawing any parallels between fascism and communism, he said.
Each ideology has its own notions of justice and problems, but it would be incorrect to match them, he said. Franco is a rather controversial personality, and there are different assessments of his role. But he was buried in a pantheon with all the honors.
Spanish people suffered a lot during the Civil War, and Russian citizens suffered equally or even more during the civil confrontation, Putin said. Nowadays, we should not provoke a split but promote unification and reconciliation with every step of ours.

I'm sure his mirror has a way of drawing the parallels for him.
In other news: the second apple has fallen on the head of Sir Isaac Newton. "This confirms the law of gravity", said the prominent scientist.
How about give the old totalitarian tyrant a bath in high-powered acid until there's nothing left but chemicals? Then pour the discharge into the sewer system for a fitting place of repose.
Suggestion, 'pink mist' but judging on the age of the corpse it would be 'grey mist'.
my gosh, that thing must really stink by now. shoo weee.
Better yet, since Putin doesn't want to bury Lenin, how 'bout he has to keep the corpse in his living room?

Putin is a turd bag. Commie piece of trash.
you're preaching to the choir :)
PUCK FUTIN!!!!!!!!!!!
And, of course, we all agree that Lenin was a noble hero, worthy of all accolades.
Seriously, whatever happened to that "Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum" or that "Barnum's Museum of Oddities" that used to have those stuffed "Half-Monkey, Half-Fish" freaks. Both Lenin and Franco exhibits would fit in well.
The answer is EBay. Old Lenin would bring millions.
LOL! I would bid on Lenin my cat would use him as a scratching post.
Does anybody have the Russian version of Putin's statements on this? If you read the article, the title doesn't support the body. He doesn't say he's against burying it, but rather says they're looking at ways to find a solution that will make all happy. A Russian colleague of mine told me that last time this came up (and Putin appeared to want to have Lenin buried), that Lenin will probably get ousted from Red Square when the older generation has passed on.
One thing I noticed on Red Square is the lines to his kukla are mainly comprised of foreign tourists. Myself? Never been - don't pay homage to a mass murderer.
Well, it was fascinating. When I visited it, it was before the whole country had collapsed and they were still doing the changing of the guards, etc. All I can say is that he ought to be buried and be done with it.
Nonetheless, it was stunningly beautiful inside with 4 guards, 1 on each side of the body. The granite/marble was incredible. The body looked like any other body at a funeral despite its age. It was surreal.
Step right up folks see the terror of the Western world. Just $5 bucks a view, sonny.l

Hrumph...same pose in both pictures. Doesn't that guy ever smile?
Hey Westlander, what say we ask if we can "entomb" Mrs. Mulhern right next to the dead communist ba$tard. She's already dead from the neck up. Twin commies!
Charge admission!
Yeah, there are some differences. The German fascists tended to put a 9mm in yer noggin. Commies liked the 9 X 18 Makarov.
Vladimir Zhirinovsky actually proposed taking Lenin on tour and charging admission.
Who says the Russians don't get capitalism. :)
utin leaves media guessing where he stands on Lenin tomb issue

MOSCOW, February 7 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Putin said Tuesday he would try to resolve the controversial issue of reburying communist leader Vladimir Lenin without triggering a split in society, but refrained from revealing his own position on the matter.
Talking to Spanish reporters ahead of an official visit to Spain, which starts Wednesday, Putin said, "I believe Russian citizens suffered internecine strife and civil confrontation as much as or even more than Spaniards did during the Civil War. So today, instead of fostering a rift, we should work... toward [national] reunification and reconciliation."
The removal of Lenin's mummified body from the mausoleum on Red Square, where it has been on display since the Bolshevik leader's death in 1924, has been the subject of heated political debates in post-Soviet Russia. Some have argued Lenin should be laid to rest at a regular cemetery. Others, primarily neo-communists, have insisted that the structure remain his final resting place.
Putin = Stalinist

Pootie poot will not bury his idol.
" I am against drawing any parallels between fascism and communism,"
He left out liberals. They are of the same line.
"president could not persuade Russians to remove the Soviet Union's founder from his place of honor,"
How does a Viet Nam vet who saw his comrades killed by communists come to call Lenins tomb a "place of honor"?
Gary, shouldnt you be on Free Lunch Republic?
When you go back to your socialist handlers, smack them for not teaching you better english. Again, you make the usual fool or yourself, shilling as always, insulting as you are. Gary didn't say he honored Lenin or his memorial honorable. It is an American expression, one your handlers are obviously to stupid to know or pass on to you.
The resting place of a person and one where people come to pay there respects, is called the person's place of honor. Gads, you shills are to pathetic.
Guess old Putin likes the smell of Lenin in the morning...

He could use a makeover. We'll call it, "Queer Eye for the Dead Guy."
It's called 42% of the population is still against this. Personally it should be burned on Red Square in public, but few elected politicians are going to do something that unpopular.
LOL
LOL
Putin is just looking for excuses to not bury his idol.
Prove it. Oh, that's right, you never do, you just make statements.
Could send the corpse to Seattle, would go with his statue in the city center.
Civil confrontation?
Although I have to admit, I do believe it's time to put the corpse underground..
Why do you back Putin so much when he hates the US?
Because your statements are groundless. Because you've yet to back one up. You must believe Bush to be an idiot or a liar then, I don't believe he's either. So, I either trust Bush's feelings and views on Putin or I stand against Bush. I choose to support Bush. As for your grandios statements, that's all they ever are, with ZERO support. The only "support" you ever showed was some photos from the 60th anniversery of WW2 that you tried to ply off as the modern Russian army and an old marker commemorating the victory that you tried to ply off as a modern symbol.
Who is neglecting the truth? Russian state owned press agency? They are in Putins pocket and they are better informed than you or Indian communists.
Putin said I am against drawing any parallels between fascism and communism, and this is communist apologism. Putin refuse to admit that people like Stalin or Lenin were scum.

Majority opinion needed on whether or not to bury Lenin - Putin
Moscow, February 8, Interfax - Any decision on whether or not to bury the body of Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin, currently housed in a mausoleum on Moscow's Red Square, should be guided by the sentiments of the majority of Russians, President Vladimir Putin said.
"I will seek decisions that have the support of the overwhelming majority of the citizens of our country and, I would like to emphasize this again, decisions that are conducive to conciliation and to national unification rather than to schism," Putin told the Spanish media.
"I believe that, just as the Spanish suffered during the civil war some time ago, the Russian population suffered in the same way or even more from internal strife and civil confrontation. Today we should do nothing that threatens a split and instead should make every move to achieve unification and conciliation," he said.
Putin, who said he had visited the grave of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco during a trip to Spain, argued it was wrong to equate communism with fascism. "Each ideology had its own notions of justice and its own problems. It seems to me that equating the two is completely incorrect," he said.
