Isn't this article a year old? I will not forgive the President for referring to fine, law-abiding, American patriots as vigilantes until he offers them a formal apology. But I think just about everything that can be said about this has been said.

"Unfortunately, the right wing of the president's party continues to put forward proposals that neither help make progress towards comprehensive immigration reform, nor help truly protect our borders," Mr. Reid said.

WACO, Texas President Bush yesterday said he opposes a civilian project to monitor illegal aliens crossing the border, characterizing them as "vigilantes." He said he would pressure Congress to further loosen immigration law.
Has Bush come to the conclusion that he wants a democratic congress for his last two years in office to throw the borders open? This is madness.

President Bush has made this clear since his first campaign. He is not in favor of tightening immigration laws. He is opposed to that, in fact.
I don't understand why anyone expects anything else. He announced it in his 2000 campaign quite clearly.

Yes this is a year old. I just noticed that. I don't understand why someone would post something a year old other than to piss off a lot of people that are already disappointed in the President over this issue.

Has anything changed? The minutemen are just about to fire up another month long project to help Americans control their own borders... this includes you.

This is further evidence of the mis-info campaign. You are a fraud.
To: stand4somethin
The Minutemen would not be needed if the President and his Attorneys General did not shirk their Constitutional duty to enforce the laws of the land.
Meanwhile, at the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Underground, there is much joy as President Bush further alienates his political base by insulting those who are acting within the law to try to curb illegal immigration. President Bush should not be too smug about this matter. The Democrats are itching to impeach him in revenge for the unsuccessful impeachment of Clinton. If the GOP base is sufficiently alienated and the Democrats gain control of both houses of Congress in January 2007, rest assured they will find a pretext, perhaps in connection with the nonexistence (they say) of Iraqi WMD, or the Valerie Plame "expose", to impeach him.
President Bush and his advisers should do nothing in the next few months to antagonize anybody who has been on his side, even the next time Pat Robertson says something intemperate.
To: stand4somethin
Politically, this is about the only answer he can give. He's done the rope-a-dope before. Why should this be any different?

That being the case they (the minutemen) are needed more than ever... I for one support their efforts.

The reaction is really funny....
It won't be the last, and is not the first, but it is so predictable and a sign of the things that are yet to come.
As a spectator I find it amusing now, because I am long past angry over the breakdown of the Conservative base...I can't help it........LOL.....:-) 06-08 will be a hoot!...
To: Bigg Red
There he goes again. This marks the SECOND TIME he has used the word "Vigilantes" to describe those brave Minutemen.
His advisors have lost it completely. He would be better off not saying anything.
To: stand4somethin
President Bush, you are either:
1) Getting very bad advise on this issue.
2) Simply mistaken on your own, or,
3) The Washington Times is mischaracterizing what you said.
Either way...the Minutemen are not viglantes. They are working with the Border Patrol and other agencies to help them do an impossible job in an environment where you most definitely are, IMHO, not helping our border situation, our legal immigration efforts, or the security of our southern border and therefore our nation by helping Fox on this issue. Fox is not our friend here, period.

This is where President Bush and I part company. It doesn't mean that I do not support President Bush any less. On immigration, as stock from an immigrant family, I think Bush is flat out wrong.
To: stand4somethin
This is an old article and I believe that positions have been modified based on feedback since it was published. To interpret this article as a representation of the current situation would be, I believe, inaccurate.

Haha... almost I guess. Some of our fellow FReepers... the "homers" are getting upset because I posted a year old article. But here we are a year later and nothing has changed. Look at the continued mess just since last year. We have actually had Mexican army on Texas soil fiddling around.
