"If this were true, there would be no need for organizations such as the ACLJ to represent Christian parents whose children have been subjected to teaching in public schools, teaching that violates the Christian parents beliefs, including, I've read, pro-homosexual teaching and materials."

For the most part, parents' rights aren't being violated. When I was in junior high, I knew a few girls whose parents thought they'd go to "hell" if they went to health. They were excused from the class. I think that the situations on the news a pretty rare; this is why they show up on the news.

"You honestly mean to tell us you've never heard one news story about homosexual groups, or those sympathetic to them, trying to force kids to read "Heather Has Two Mommies" and other such literature?"

Nobody is trying to force anyone to read anything. Parents have a say in what their kids read. Moreover, the whole idea of that sort of book is to teach kids to treat each other with tolerance, not to "convert" them to a gay lifestyle.

"And that the sexual ed courses teach the kids there is "nothing wrong" with homoexuality?"

Again... this is called tolerance. It's not the public schools' job to teach children religion (in fact it's prohibited); this is the parents' job.

"Wasn't it during the 1980s when the Surgeon General thought it would be a good idea to have first graders learn about homosexuality (specifically anal sex between two men) and how to put a condom on a cucumber?"

Actually, it was Jocelyn Elders during the 1990s, and she was ridiculed and got fired for it. I don't think that any reasonable person believes that a first grader needs to know the ins and outs of sex. Those discussion can wait until the child is nine/ ten years old.

"On a similar note, we have homosexuality crammed down our throats in TV shows and in movies (e.g. Brokeback Mountain, Queer Eye, Will and Grace, the L Word, and homosexual characters on other shows) all of which is seeking to "normalize" homosexuality and make us think it's okay."

Nobody is forcing you or your children to watch TV. Turn it off if you don't like what's on...

"That, to me, was one of the first things that demonsrated that the homosexual activists had made some in-roads: people had to qualify any criticism of homosexuals or homosexualty by tacking on the phrase, "not that there's anything wrong with it." "

Because most Americans don't believe in shoving their version of morality in the faces of others as they don't want others to do the same to them. In fact, Jesus discusses this idea numerous times in the Bible...

"So only straight people commit crimes? There is no such thing as a homosexual who has ever molested a child, shop lifted, stolen, lied?"

No, but in the same vein, not all sexual predators are gay and to say that just because someone is gay he/she is a sexual predator is offensive.... Which you seem to subscribe to.

"There has been a lot of sloppy thinking in this thread, such as the oft- repeated argument that "because some straight parents are abusive, this means that homosexuality is morally acceptable, and it's perfectly acceptable for homosexuals to be parents.""

I'm sure that Mary Cheney and her partner will be much better parents than some of the Upper Middle Class Daddy and Stay-at-Home Mommy households I was exposed to when I was growing up. A handful of the people I went to school with, mainly women, are basically estranged from their parents. I think that what we're getting at is that just because a child has a father and mother(and a stay-at-home mommy to boot!) doesn't mean that that child is going to have a happy childhood. There's many traditional families that screw up their children and many non-traditional families that raise wonderful children.

The only people who think 9 and 10 year old children need to learn about anal sex are pedophiles.

So I guess my mom is a pedophile because she and I discussed my menstrual cycle and how babies were made when I was in fourth grade.

Actions reinforce tendencies. One can have a tendency to lie, for example. However if one makes an effort to be truthful and sustains that effort eventually the "inherent" tendency to lie will be nullified, and supplanted by a trained tendency to be truthful.

What citation do you have for what you said about the AMA, btw?

Most gays just want to be left alone to live with their partner; they aren't looking for converts.

Welcome to the Great Ideas (Really Really Truly) Club!

On the definiton of "Being Left Alone To Live With Their Partner":

On the defintion of "They Aren't Looking For Converts":
Look up GLSEN or NAMBLA for starters, oh incurious one. I'm not even going to link to anything about those sick groups.

Considering you're against telling eleven year olds the facts of life so that they can all end up with STDs and unwanted pregnancies, that would be you, not me o

- In the 1970s and earlier, most gays were closeted... The people who were openly gay were probably the most stereotypical and therefore gave the whole group the worst rep...

- The relationships are for the group as a whole, not for gays in committed relationships. I'm sure that lots of twenty-something heterosexuals have similar relationship histories. Heck, I've only had one relationship last that long in my dating history.

- I highly doubt that homosexual relationships are more abusive than heterosexual relationships...

- There's been many high profile cases of middle aged men raping and brutally murdering preteen girls... Take Polly Klaus for instance... Just because some pedophiles are homosexual doesn't mean that all pedophiles are homosexual nor does it mean that all homosexuals are pedophiles.

“Even more harmful are welfare layabouts who have 8 kids by eight different guys and not sure who by who.”

I completely agree. That is why I support public funding of abortion and other birth control methods for people on public assistance. Is there a more fiscally responsible approach to our preposterous welfare state than that? It would also help the Republican party because the growth of the Democratic party would be curtailed to some extent.

Your support of abortion makes no sense re welfare folks.
Tie tubes, vasectomy, etc. are logical options without killing the child.
