It was not so long ago that the idea that Senator John McCain would even entertain tapping Mitt Romney, his bitterest primary rival, as his running mate would have seemed preposterous, rating at least 7.0 on the strange-bedfellows scale.
The McCain-Romney feud was the juiciest of the Republican primary season, featuring two men who generally just did not seem to like each other. Mr. Romney said Mr. McCain would set a liberal Democrat course as president. He said that one of Mr. McCains proudest accomplishments, his campaign finance bill, took a whack at the First Amendment, and told voters grappling with money woes that Mr. McCain has said time and again that he doesnt understand the economy. Mr. McCain, for his part, witheringly cast Mr. Romney as a flip-flopper.
But that was then.
These days Mr. Romney, a telegenic former Massachusetts governor, is serving as a wingman extraordinaire for Mr. McCain on cable television. He has dutifully raised money for Mr. McCain. And Mr. Romney has developed a reputation as a campaign surrogate who can talk fluently about the economy, and who has roots in Michigan, an important swing state.
Now Mr. Romney is attracting perhaps more buzz than anyone else as a potential running mate for the man he once derided... [excerpt]

Give it a rest.
Whee, the NY Times picks our presidential candidate, and now they’ll pick the Veep, too.
Personally, if he is going to do so, I think McCain should pick Romney soon so he can begin touring MI/CO/NV/NH/MA and raising money for the campaign before the convention. Obama needs to be taken down several pegs and Romney would do well as the “bad cop.”
NY Times sure does love liberals. They’re hot for Republican party killers like Slick Willard *omney.

thanks for putting me on the Romney for Veep ping!
What’s cool about now is.. Romney can attack but the others aren’t attacking back.
Because he isn’t running with McCain yet. So they’ll milk this time for all it’s worth.
You’re welcome!
Thought you would enjoy being in on the “Pick Mitt” threads.
What a lib douche.
Yeah, but you also don’t get the coverage as an official candidate (for VP). I suppose there are advantages to either way.
Interesting...
Whoever the VP nominee is.. as soon as they’re picked it’ll be on.
So that’s why McCain is taking so long. They said it’ll be only right before the Convention.
I think we all kind of already know who it is anyways.
Lets face facts. In every Presidential election, we have to consider filling the VP slot with someone we would accept as President. With McCains age, this becomes even more important. So, we are in essence, electing a president via the VP slot something to strongly consider. In past elections, most voters have put little stock in the VP slot, we cant afford that in this election.
BTTT
I just don’t think it will happen.
Go to bed, junior. This is a CONSERVATIVE website. Take your liberal fraud Slick Willard and head on over to DU.
I agree.
From some of the mailings and e-mails I’ve gotten from Mitt, it’s clear something is up.
Pray that it doesn’t. Slick Willard is as close to being the RINO Anti-Christ as they come.
Go Mitt!
Lotta termites in that wood.
Cute, all the *omneyspambots out in full farce tonight. Sorry, honey. I’m going to continue to expose your liberal fraud. Deal with it.
And you are the expert on Christians now?
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Perhaps you can show us how Christian you are by removing all those photos form your page, that would be a great start.
We know, we know. You prefer to look at Slick Willard Cheesecake.
MR came out as a strong pro lifer...that should have Freepers tripping all over themselves to slurp the guy.
Has anyone seen a pacifier lying around?
If so, please return it to pansyfieldlickerd-ass. He getting cranky.
I know somebody who speaks with a forked tongue. I see the evil, the hate, and the lies and slander the supporters of this fraud spread. Sounds like a hit a raw nerve exposing your liberal idol.
Getting cranky? His posts are all the same, he needs new material.
HOPE it happens.
We need a conservative with a brain!
Mitt should have been running for President.
McPain is an arse.
I completely agree!
Adding Romney to the ticket would allow me to vote for the ticket with a clear conscience.
“Adding Romney to the ticket would allow me to vote for the ticket with a clear conscience.”
Ditto!
Then the U.S. has a shot of pulling out of the mess we are in. McPain is utterly confused.
Your lies became even crazier and more desparate as we get closer to “Vice President Romney” hehe

Spam. Spam. Spam. Do you ever post anything that you haven’t spammed FR with 1,000 times ?
Slick Willard did run. He was rejected for being a sleazy, lying liberal fraud.
You are telling me to give it a rest?
I've posted a legitimate news article, discussing the growing realization that Romney, despite your indefatigable defamatory efforts, is the most likely GOP Veep nominee.
How many umpteen thousands of crass, inane, repetitive, irrelevant anti-Romney posts from you are there going to be before that blessed moment arrives when you finally give it a rest?
Do you ever answer any questions posed to you?
I asked you to name a major Conservative against Mitt Romney.
You can’t.
I asked you to provide some evidence that Tancredo was paid off by Romney.
You can’t.
I asked you to name who your pick was for VP.
You can’t.
Which leads me to believe you probably aren’t a Conservative or Republican at all.
However, his religious affiliation could well be a horse collar around his neck (Kennedy overcame this pariah, mayhap Mitt can, as well).
Look, we know you love your liberals. Some of us around here are actually trying to keep McCain from losing being tied to that liberal fraud *omney. How’s that Deval Patrick working out for you ? Y’know, Slick Willard’s little Stalinist gift to his state.
I think Romney’s many recorded attacks on McCain’s positions and voting record make him a poor choice for VP.
I am not anti-Romney in general, but our opposition could make lots of anti-McCain ads using nothing but Romney footage.
Yes, I am. What’s so hillarious is seeing a puff piece in the New York Slimes, where our terrorist enemies get their news from, touting Slick Willard as VP. And I get called a liberal for opposing him ?!? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!
The ads wouldn’t work even if they tried them.
Mitt’s advantages outweigh his negatives big time.
He would bring so much to the ticket.
You’d believe Slick Willard could poop lollypops if he told you so. Don’t you have any dignity, Connie ?
It’s a sure sign of pending success. The opposition noise just gets louder, but that’s all it is... noise.
Instead of insulting me you should be supporting a candidate.
Again this makes me think you have no candidate.
Maybe you should go back to DU.
Until you pony up the bucks, time and effort to run this system, you can knock off this crud about telling posters where to go. Don’t like their opinions, then fine, disagree, debate them, but shutting down a poster because they don’t agree with you? That’s how liberals work, it’s called ‘group think’ and is probably one of the prime examples why I detest Romney so much.
Not because he promotes mandates from the federal government in the middle of a presidential debate, not because he’s the only governor /ever/ to sign legislation permitting homosexuals to corrupt the marriage system, not because he’s forcing socialized medicine down our throats, but because of group think RomBots who can’t /stand/ facing any form of question about their candidate.
So enough with the jerk responses.
Interesting..
It’s their last ditch effort to try and derail an actual Conservative getting into the race.
Que Captain Hyperbole!

P.S.
Can someone tell me how to post images, assuming that I dont know squat abaout all that fancy smancy tech talk.
