Borned and raised in NY but no the Confederate flag does not offend me. The flag is part of our history. Men who fought for honorable reason died for that flag.

No. Any confederate flag like the CSA, US under the articles of confederation, or the EU is not offensive to me.

I have a confederate flag hat (several) and I proudly where it just to tick the racists off. I am so ticked at the way things are going that I wore it the other day to an Office Max store in a certain area of town to have my Joker Obama color copies printed out.

So are you talking about the Confederate Battle Flag or the Flag of the Confederate States of America?
BTW flag@whitehouse.gov bothers me.

*grin* Only in America would conquored states be permitted the privilege of flying their battle standard after the conquest.

Question: "Does the Confederate Flag offend you?"
Response: No.
Comment: It is a very important part of American history and for that reason must be suppressed by the conquering outcasts.

It wasn’t the “War Between the States.” It was the Second War of Independence. And everybody lost.

No, it stands for Liberty and Freedom.
It will never offend me except when the dumb rednecks use it as a symbol of hate. That is what offends me, when men who could never stand the barrage of bullets and shells at Seminary Ridge, yet wave it as if they claim the moral rights to use it for political purposes.
Stars and Bars, long may it wave.
They have their ‘X’, I have mine.
To: Hillarys Gate Cult
Of course not, it stands for our Southern heritage and states’ rights- I don’t agree with what they supported, slavery is wrong, but as sovereign states they were allowed to leave the Union- just like I think my State of Florida should, if our RINO governor Charlie Crist had more balls

Winners write the history books. In this case the winners wrote about a war between the states. But even so - you haven't actually addressed my point ... I'll make it an explicit question. Can anybody else think of a conquored state that has been permitted the privilege of flying its battle standard after the conquest and surrender?
To: poetbdk
No ! Just a marker to show the battle lines .

The confederate battle flag is part of our history. It was bastardized by the klan and the dimrats and all other non thinking people equate that flag with the klan. The only flag that offends me is the obama/pepsi thing.

Wales and Scotland don’t have their own battle colors - they share the same monarch and so, by extension, the same battle standards. They do have national flags - these are not the same thing as a battle standard.

No I think it is a part of our history and should be honored.....
The only thing that would be offensive to me is who would carry it, like the KKK....in that case the flag is not offensive but the evil carrying it is.....I think that is the confusion, people need to look beyond the flag and look at who is displaying it and their intent......

Why should anyone be offended by the symbol of a freedom-loving people? Anyone, that is, who has the capacity to think and not just regurgitate the distortions in the government-run schools.
It should be celebrated and revered, Who knows, it may fly in battle once again.

That’s there way of repressing anything they don’t like!

To: poetbdk
The Confederate flag doesn't offend me, but people using it to attempt to divide other people do. Forgive a little suspicion but we've had an unprecedented influx of new FReepers attempting to post flame-bait threads and it really sort of makes the rest of us a little suspicious when this sort of thing pops up.
One thing that helps to allay that suspicion is participating in your own thread. Care to comment? What do you think?

"Can anybody else think of a conquored state that has been permitted the privilege of flying its battle standard after the conquest and surrender?"Vichy France.
Besides which, this flag isn't being flown by the "conquered State". It's being flown by individuals. People can fly any flag that they want, or even create a flag from a non-existent State if they so desire.
I would note that, in many leftist demonstrations, the flag of the old Soviet Union is still displayed. That state also no longer exists and has a longer history of bloodshed and ignomy than the Confederacy ever had.

We never conquored Mexico. Mexico still exists as an sovereign nation. I'm sure it annoys you when they do that but it's not the same thing and not an answer to my question.
To: TomOnTheRun
“We never conquored Mexico. Mexico still exists as an sovereign nation.”
They exist because we allowed it. They may have been our first mistake.
