For too long conservatives (those who respect religion, patriotism, and freedom) have had to satisfy themselves with meager success. Conservatives may win an election or pass a bill, but we are starving for real victory.
To win real victory we must colonize the left. We must create a conservative socialist party. The only selling point for the left is socialism, so we must detach socialism from the main body of leftist dogma. When a conservative right battles a conservative left we can achieve real, lasting victory. Both sides would espouse our core principles.
I support a conservative socialist or populist party that would:
1) Help out working people.
2) Respect the values of working people (religious values, family values). The party would oppose homosexual marriage and abortion.
3) Protect human rights.
4) Support democracy.
Fortunately, the world is moving toward this new system. The old cold war dichotomy is fading away. With the Soviets gone, why would anyone submit to Communism? Does anyone think the less-well-off have any real affection for Marx or atheism?
I envision conservative capitalists (prevalent in North America, Europe, and Japan) contending with conservative socialists (prevalent in the tropics). The two sides would move up and down, but conservatism would win either way.

I noticed you signed up two days ago. Maybe you should read a little about “conservatism” and “socialism” before posting such a ridiculous post.

The first thing you should do is look up the definition of “Socialism”. You seem to think it means “helping people”.

What would be the motivation for those starting such a party? Conservative values are opposed to the very core of socialism. Populists tend to be somewhat independent by nature and somewhat charismatic enough to pull off a third party will do their own thing based on some particular issues.

sort of like Tory authoritarianism (British model)
or Iranian - present state
Conservative Statism = Authoritarianism
Antithesis of Libertarian model
Hence, Liberty DIES

1) Help out working people. You support the right of the government to use force to extract money from the pockets of productive people and distribute that money to those struggling working people from whom the politicians are trying to buy votes?
2) Respect the values of working people (religious values, family values). The party would oppose homosexual marriage and abortion.
Hey! You got one right!
3) Protect human rights.
Don't know what this means. We have the Bill of Rights and that ought to be sufficient. In my experience, "human rights" tends toward the right to food, the right to a house, the right to a job, the right to a living wage, the right to HDTV, the right to a cell phone ...
4) Support democracy.
Worst system of government. Ever. Mob rule. It's not what America is about.

This premis does not make any sense. Conservative socialism? Private property, limited government, and individual liberty are core principles of conservatism. All of these are incompatable with socialism. Utilizing the power of the state to enforce your religous principles is tempting to many on the right and left but our founders knew where this inevitably leads — to the corruption of both Church and State. Remember, any government powerful enough to give you everything you want is powerful enough to take away everything you have.

Actually, all, this may not be zot worthy, just somewhat inaptly stated.
To miapelked, are you talking about packaging?
Think about it freepers. The left packages their statists as libs and conservatives. Why can’t we do the same thing? In fact, we almost have to do the same thing to compete...

Mr. miapelked, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Conservatism is about minimal government and maximum personal freedom. Government should be local, then state to handle regional differences, and federal to deal with international considerations and provide for the defense (and offense if necessary) for the country as a whole.
Socialism is about centralized governmental control in which all aspects come from the top down and drowns personal freedom in its ever growing control by a few elite families that fashion themselves as the intelligentsia and kings and queens. Socialism could almost be called a monarchy of the elite.
Conservative socialism...you are a moron.

Mike Huckabee has advocated what you're suggesting here (Big government social-welfare statism coupled with social conservatism) - at least he has in the past.
Perhaps you should consider signing on with his 2012 campaign?
