Hoffman was for Scozzafava before he was against her

Doug Hoffman pledged to help Dede Scozzafava in an e-mail sent two days after the Republican Party passed over the Lake Placid accountant for the nomination.
The e-mail, sent from Mr. Hoffman's business account on July 24 and provided by the Scozzafava campaign, states in full: "Hi Dede, Congratulations and the best of luck in your candidacy. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Doug."
This is contrary to what Mr. Hoffman, who is now running against Ms. Scozzafava as a Conservative candidate, told me less than two weeks later.

That's a DNC dirty trick.
That is nothing more than a courteous letter by a gracious opponent. To call that a "pledge" is nonsense. You might as well claim that by signing a letter "very truly yours" you have pledged yourself to marry the recipient.
You fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Hoffman intends to lie his way to power. What a pant load. This is just the typical congratulation note. This release is very desperate and juvenile.
To: bfree
No kidding, I’m sick of these lying liberals who call themselves republicans. The GOP is throwing every ACORN/Moveon tactic in the book at this one and they’ve become disgusting.

So let’s get this straight. I’ve seen you bashing Hoffman on a few threads now. Do you or do you not support the DIABLO Dede Scozzafava for the seat? If you do, please tell us conservatives how she is a better candidate than Hoffman.

Hoffman intends to lie his way to power. So Hoffman changes his mind about Scuzzy, yet you take a greater issue with that than Scuzzy's rampant liberalism and her sneakily paying an in-law with campaign funds?

Besides, later in the article Hoffman states
he never promised to support Scozzafava, but he did say who he would support:
"I did indicate that I would be happy to support a conservative Republican candidate, especially if it wasn't me. ... It never occurred to me that the party would pick the only liberal in the race."
Hoffman, from where I stand, is off the hook. These hit piece no doubt comes from a Democrat playbook. It has all the usual characteristics of an off-the-record conversation or e-mail that supposedly took place. The Democrat has no need to attack the Republican candidate, they're agreeable on everything. This race is two Democrats against a Reagan Conservative.

To: GeronL
Hoffman was just being polite He was lying and going back on his word politely? Fascinating.
GOP leaders were outraged, especially since Mr. Hoffman, like other congressional hopefuls, had pledged to support the nominee. He did say it repeatedly, said Sandra Corey, the former GOP chairwoman of Jefferson County. And then all of a sudden, it's a no-go, like he hadn't understood her background, which is a falsehood. I would never, ever trust him.

That is SUCH garbage! The headline doesn’t match what that email said. He congratulated her and ask if he could help. Is that really and endorsement. Maybe he wanted to help her by mowing her lawn or doing accounting work for her, since she was going to be busy. He may have sent the same email to the guy who got the nomination for the Communist party.

So Hoffman changes his mind about Scuzzy Her positions and votes were all matters of public record. He knew what she was when he made his pledge.
He didn't change his mind about her. He just changed his mind about keeping his word.
