CHIPS Cigarette Tax

Posted on 03/23/2010 2:44:51 PM PDT by TLittlefella

In 2009 the Fed Tax on cigarettes went from 39 cents per pack to $1.00 per pack to support CHIPS.

Now that everyone will have health insurance and there is no need for the Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP), when will the CHIP tax on tobacco be removed?

Off course the answer is never, the slugs we have down there in the Congressional Cesspool will find a way to use the money for another project.

Plus, I read that the bill authorizes 50% higher premiums for smokers than for nonsmokers. Seems like nicotine addiction should be considered a pre-existing condition?

I have a neighbor, that's generally a good guy, but bought into the “we need a change” garbage in 2008 and voted for Obama. Well this guy is also a chain smoker and his opinion of Obama changed drastically when one of the first bills Obama signed was this cigarette tax hike. When he started ranting about Obama, I just had to laugh...

When I become president, I will make it a law that no legal product can be taxed more than 10% of the cost of its production. Somehow, I think this kind of taxes against one business and not another violates the equal protection clause, though I’ve never heard it argued.

But the person could be a falling down drunk 7 nights a week and that’s okay.

What a stupid country this has become.

In MA the state cig tax is $2.50 so I’m expected to pay $35.00 in taxes on a carton and to add insult to injury they compute the 6% sales tax on the aforementioned excise taxes.

Yep, thats just what is wrong with America ( The people )They will vote to get what they personally want, which is a hand out, take other people,s rights away from them , but don,t take mine away from me.

I also smoke, but there are smokers who are just as self righteous and socialist as the next.
