Girl Dies Bull Riding. VERY RARE ACCIDENT

Many people die every day, how many die doing something they absolutely LOVE? Brooke Ann did. I'm sure her adrenaline was pumping just before she got on that bull. I'm sure there was a part of her that thought "this is the one I'm going to make 8 seconds on". She smelled the bull, felt his power underneath her and was loving every minute of it. Would it have been easier, more PC or less heartbreaking if she'd been killed in a car wreck on the way home? No.

Heartbreaking accident. God be with her parents and friends through this tough time. I had a friend get kicked squarely in the chest by a young colt during feeding. Probably thought it was another horse come up behind him. I agree that sometimes an accident is just an accident.

Yes I'm sure as her life faded away she was thinking "Wow it's really great dying this way. This is so much better than living to my 80's and dying of cancer." (I hate articles like this. A total tragic loss of life, and the moron who wrote it tries to make it upbeat.)

Read this, but perhaps I missed just how old this girl was? Usually, first line info.

Sad story, nonetheless. BS happens - and bulls, being bulls. . .happen too.

Bull riding is animal abuse. The object is to torment the animal so he kicks and bucks. It’s legal, though. So, if you’re in to it, you gotta accept the consequences.

Forgot to add that 'people' being 'people' happens too. Unfortunately.

I'm confused about how jumping on 1200 pounds of fury equates to having a car accident.

Pretty 16 year old Brooke Ann Coats had a passion in this life.

The above is the FIRST sentence of the article.

She was 16. It’s 18 to smoke. 21 to drink. 16 is ok to ride a bucking bull?!

Me too. I looked up the incidence of bull riding injuries on a sports medicine website and found that

In bull riding, the incidence of injury is reported at 32.2 injuries per 1000 competitor-exposures.
Now considering that all a bull rider has to stay on is 8 seconds, and probably 60% of them stay on less than this that's an injury every 4.1 minutes on average IF every rider managed to stay on the full 8 seconds. Probably closer to an injury every 2 minutes on average. I've been in cars countless hours and have yet to be injured.

It’s a story that makes any Feminista proud especially since she died with her boots on like a man!

There are all sorts of dangerous sports that teenagers engage in. Skiing, waterskiing, playing football, biking. Heck, even riding a plain old horse is dangerous. Or should they all just sit in front of the TV throughout their adolescence?

This was very sad; I’m sure she would have loved to be 80, but she undeniably loved the thrill of her sport and I’m sure she knew the risks.

It was a freak accident, in any case. Bull riders do wear some protective clothing, such as vests and helmets. But the bull obviously hit her square in the chest and probably caused her heart to go into a fatal arrhythmia. Very sad, but one of the risks of really living is - well, dying. But then, that’s 100% certain with any kind of life, well-lived or dull.

Sounds a bit like how Lane Frost died. He took a head butt in the ribs and one of his broken ribs pierced his heart.

Tragic all way around, including for those that witnessed it.

Probably a preemptive shot to the nannies who are sure to use this to go after her parents/rodeos/whatever. I imagine this will be on O'Reilly.

Although, personally, I might be with the nannies on this. Seems like she died being mean to an animal. It's not like they're training him, is it? But, I don't know a cow from a moose, so I'll shut up.

See the stats in post 10 and then tell me that skiing, etc are anywhere NEAR as dangerous as bull riding. Oh and you can skip the false dichotomy. Teenagers aren't limited to chosing between bull riding and watching tv. This is a tragedy, and any attempts to soft sell it are just blowing pink smoke up everyone's backside.

So should kids be banned from sports until they are 18? Or should just dangerous ones like baseball, football, soccer, swimming, basketball, track and field, wrestling, and rodeo be banned?

I'm sure there are others that could be on the list, go-carts, motorcycles, bikes, etc?

Better ban hunting and fishing while you are at it? I knew a kid that had an eyeball ripped out by a fishing lure, ban that at once!

Dominion is a two way street there champ.

Being given dominion over something doesn't mean you can do with it as you will without compassion.

That being said, I have nothing against Rodeo - but am appalled by Bull “fighting” (ritualistic torture until death).
