DEAR MEXICAN: My cousin had put a picture on Facebook that said, "I will not be forced to learn a foreign language to accommodate illegals in my country." He's Mexican-American. Our family is from La Luz, Zacatecas, and its surrounding villages. His dad (my uncle) was born in El Paso, Texas. His mom jumped into the conversation and backed him up. His parents are divorced. How do I politely tell them they are wrong with their way of thinking?
Prepared to Punch a Pinche Pocho Primo
DEAR WAB: Sorry, cabrón, but you're just not going to win this battle. As much as I and other Chicano yaktivists would love it if everyone of Mexican descent in this country were a card-carrying member of the Reconquista complete with Nahuatl names and a Frida-filled house, that's just not going to happen. As I've explained muchos times before, the great thing about this country is how it can turn the descendents of even the biggest wab into an anti-immigrant loon by the second generation (see: Marco Rubio) and even by the first (see: my parents). The best you can do is remind your cousin that your grandparents came to this country to find a better life and to not talk trash on those less fortunate than theybut, again, it's a losing battle that goes contrary to the American immigrant experience, which sees the previous generation of immigrants spit on newcomers as though they were a spittoon. So can I suggest something revolutionary, instead? Leave your primo to his opinions. Let him be a prieto Know Nothing. You be the conscious cousin, and let him be the pocho onetrust me, you'll get all the hot second cousins at the family pachangas, while he'll be condemned to be the Tio Taco of El Paso.
Queen Elizabeth is married to her second cousin. It’s not all that bad, really; the coefficient of consanguinuity is only 3.1%.
I suspect that's a fairly widespread opinion among those who came here legally or who are second or third generation citizens. Which is why the vaunted Democrat plan to monopolize the "Hispanic" vote probably won't produce the expected results.
The plan is based on the monolithic black vote. Hispanics aren't monolithic.
I think you mean pendejo but I don't talk that way. ;)
One is either Mexican or American, one can’t be both. My people left Ireland over one hundred and fifty years ago. Ireland means nothing to me. I’m not an “Irish-American’’. I’m an American. I wish to hell Mexicans would drop this hyphenated bull-sh!t and lose the pugnacious attitude about ‘’reconquista’’, stop breaking in here and observe our laws and live by them. They’re doing other wise is causing massive resentment. If they want a ‘’better life’’ then for Christ sake stop dragging the crappy one they’ve been living in Mexico here!
Ironically so is yours. Yo comprende ‘’pinche puto(masculine, not femmine) pindejo’’.
Actually, you can't be Mexican without being American. Mexico is part of North America, so they are definitely Americans.
No, they’re Mexicans who live in Mexico. That would be like saying , in reverse, that I’m Mexican, applying your illogic. They are are not “Americans,’’ i.e citizens of The United States of America.
Isn’t everyone who lives in North America or South America an American? What do you think they are Europeans? African? Martians?
Folks that I know who come from South America identify themselves from the countries they come from, “Peru’’, Columbia’’ etc. I’ve never heard any of them EVER call themselves an “American’’. Believe it or not when I did say that to them they looked very puzzled, even offended. Try calling any West Indian black an “African’’ and you’ll get an earful!
So WAB, stop being a pendejo.
Mexico has a border fence.
To the ... south.
Well, we know why Mexico is such a sh*thole: The people that come from there don’t seem to be too bright.
Well, Mexico is one of the richest countries in the world. And the richest person in the world is from Mexico...
So, since there is wealth there is no corruption, stupidity, or the like? Since there is such wealth why is Mexico a sewer?
No, I meant the ‘puta’ part. :-P
I don’t care if they want to call themselves that. I care very much when they tell us we have no right to call ourselves “Americans” because they are too. That’s like telling folks from New York City they can’t call themselves “New Yorkers” because there’s also a state by the same name.
