What Do I Do to Shut Up My Mexican-Hating Mexican Cousin?
OC Weekly ^ | GUSTAVO ARELLANO

Posted on 03/12/2012 12:30:38 PM PDT by nickcarraway

DEAR MEXICAN: My cousin had put a picture on Facebook that said, "I will not be forced to learn a foreign language to accommodate illegals in my country." He's Mexican-American. Our family is from La Luz, Zacatecas, and its surrounding villages. His dad (my uncle) was born in El Paso, Texas. His mom jumped into the conversation and backed him up. His parents are divorced. How do I politely tell them they are wrong with their way of thinking?

Prepared to Punch a Pinche Pocho Primo

DEAR WAB: Sorry, cabrón, but you're just not going to win this battle. As much as I and other Chicano yaktivists would love it if everyone of Mexican descent in this country were a card-carrying member of the Reconquista complete with Nahuatl names and a Frida-filled house, that's just not going to happen. As I've explained muchos times before, the great thing about this country is how it can turn the descendents of even the biggest wab into an anti-immigrant loon by the second generation (see: Marco Rubio) and even by the first (see: my parents). The best you can do is remind your cousin that your grandparents came to this country to find a better life and to not talk trash on those less fortunate than they—but, again, it's a losing battle that goes contrary to the American immigrant experience, which sees the previous generation of immigrants spit on newcomers as though they were a spittoon. So can I suggest something revolutionary, instead? Leave your primo to his opinions. Let him be a prieto Know Nothing. You be the conscious cousin, and let him be the pocho one—trust me, you'll get all the hot second cousins at the family pachangas, while he'll be condemned to be the Tio Taco of El Paso.

Not wanting to learn Spanish is not “Mexican-hating”, IMO. And what is with this hyphenating everything? He’s American. If he’s a dual citizen, then he can Mexican-American.

"you'll get all the hot second cousins at the family pachangas"

"Must be a cultural thing."

Can also be read as an inbreeding thing.

DEAR WAB: Sorry, cabrón...

Aye. Such language. Unless you are really good friends and it is said in jest, this is a fighting word.

Here are key portions of the address to Congress in December 1923 by President Calvin Coolidge:

American institutions rest solely on good citizenship. They were created by people who had a background of self-government. New arrivals should be limited to our capacity to absorb them into the ranks of good citizenship. America must be kept American.

For this purpose it is necessary to continue a policy of restricted immigration. It would be well to make such immigration of a selective nature with some inspection at the source, and based either on a prior census or upon the record of naturalization. Either method would insure the admission of those with the largest capacity and best intention of becoming citizens. Those who do not want to be partakers of the American spirit ought not to settle in America.

This mexican dear abby is a real brain trust - he talks about reconquista then cries that some are less than willing to welcome more poor illegal immigrants.

“I will not be forced to learn a foreign language to accommodate illegals in my country.”

This is supposed to be hatred according to the politically correct.

How about the people who deliberately disobey and disrespect our laws?
How about those who commit crimes, who drive without insurance and run away from traffic accidents?
How about those who commit identity theft?
How about those who collect government handouts fraudulently?

This guy sounds like a good guy.

Most Mexicans and Mexican-Americans are NOT immigrants they are INSURGENTS...
True some did go through proper channels but by far most didn’t..

Them or their parents or grand-parents were insurgents.. “wet backs”.. illegal aliens..

Any that have the slightest bit of pride in Mexico are ignorant or delusional..
Mexican food is good but Mexicans have never be able to govern themselves..
Mexicans have ALWAYS been governed by MOB RULE with mobsters in charge..

Many many years ago Mexicans HAD to complete a course on American History strong in Civics..
Actually ANY foreign person had to complete this course..
NOW not even high school students have the slightest idea about Civics..

You can go to college and get a PHD after 8 or so years and be totally ignorant of American History and Civics..

Republicans allowed this to happen and are MORE GUILTY OF IT than democrats are..
Republicans allowed the DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA..
They allowed the Teachers Unions to do this...

By the way did you know that Santo and WIllard support UNIONS...
If would HARD to find any negative comment on UNIONS by either of them..
Actually it would hard to find any comment about any Union Pro or Con..
They will not even MENTION anything about a UNION...

The UNIONS OWN Rick and Willard.. as they do Obama..
HELLO.. anybody notice something strange about this “brotherhood”..

Thats the money shot: "your grandparents came to this country to find a better life"

If they wanted this place to be more like Mexico they would have stayed in Mexico.

When I was an American living in Japan, I despised Americans living there who refused to learn Japanese (even though they had been there for years) and trash-talked their host country. Even though we were guests and even though a minority of our hosts were blatantly racist, I felt we had an obligation to at least acknowledge that most of the people in our host country were gracious and giving us an opportunity which we might never have in our home country.

As such, I behaved like a grateful guest and expected other Americans to do likewise. America would be a far more pleasant place for guests and hosts alike if visitors to our nation behaved in like manner.

I haven’t looked at an OC Weekly in years..looks like it’s still a liberal rag.

Also, I’m Mexican-American & this “Ask Gustavo” column must be some kind of joke..& if it’s not a joke or satire, who thinks this clowns spanglish replies are even considered serious in any way?
The previous question on his column was “Why do Mexicans Pick Through Trash To Look For Recyclables?”

This “Gustavo” is racist!! I’m reporting him to Attack Watch...

“Most Mexicans and Mexican-Americans are NOT immigrants they are INSURGENTS...”

I would not say ‘most’, but I would say many. I also would not say ‘insurgents’ since colonists is the more accurate term.

Here's the image that accompanies the "Ask a Mexican" column. To a certain extent, it's a Mexican spin on "You might be a redneck" but is generally a hate-filled rant against genuine, legal Americans.

Maryland counties seek to make English official language
Further into story....Frederick County based its ordinance on model legislation by ProEnglish, a national group that seeks to make English the official language. That nationwide campaign is characterized very differently by supporters and opponents.

“It’s a very pro-immigrant, immigrant-friendly measure,” said Suzanne Bibby, director of government relations for ProEngish. “English is the language of success here.”

But Heidi Beirich, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Project, said, “This effort to push English as an official language is part of a strategy basically to reduce the Latino population here, and it’s a racist strategy.”

“you’ll get all the hot second cousins at the family pachangas

It is.

They got it from the Muslims.

Spain was ruled by Muslims for 700 years and Spanish culture reflects much of the sheer nastiness that is Islam.

Think: Inbreeding, Corruption.

‘Sides, many believe “better get ‘em while they’re young” - MadMo did. And to this day, so do many “Hispanics”.
