10-Foot-Tall Anti-Romney Neon Sign Erected In Newbury Park Neighborhood (Owner a "Repub/Christian")

NEWBURY PARK — Complaints poured in Monday about a 10-foot-high wooden structure and neon sign in a quiet Newbury Park neighborhood that says “Romney’s Racist Heart Dotcom. Save the GOP.”

“It’s obnoxious. It’s an eyesore here. I wish it was gone,” said one neighbor.

Steven Showers, 59, built the display after doing research into Mormonism after it became apparent that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney would get the Republican nomination for president, according to the Ventura County Star.

“I love it. It’s the way I designed it,” Showers said.

Clearly mentally ill, and a really thoughtful neighbor to boot.

I dunno about that but the way Fox News keeps on saying Mormons are Christians are pushing me to not vote for Romney. Call Romney a Mormon and leave it at that but when they start to re-define what it means to be Christian, I’m not going to support that.

I am not sure Steven Showers is enough of an historian to be able to study Morman doctrine on blacks in the context of history.

Is this even legal? I’m sure Maryland has pretty strict zoning enforcement. BTAIM this will probably INCREASE votes for Romney. “If an annoying ahole is against him then I am for him.”

"they start to re-define what it means to be Christian"

They've been doing that since the earliest days of the Church. Get used to it.

Ah yes another good old Moveon.org bot tactics. Claim to be a "Christian Republican who voted for Bush" while spewing all the usual Progressive Fascist propaganda lines.

His actions show there is nothing either Christian or Republican in his heart

Does your definition of "mentally-ill" preclude someone who's telling the truth ?

Curious minds just want to know ...

The Mormon’s do have a history of racism, but I don’t know that I would paint Romney with that same brush, unless he has given us reason to.

Romney has given us many other reasons not to like him. But if someone has evidence of Romney being racist, please share.

Showers, who describes himself as white, a Republican and Christian, told the Star, “I was stunned to find out that the Mormon religion is a white supremacist, anti-black, racist ideology.”

According to Showers’ website, the following ideology is “embedded” in Mormon doctrine: “White skin indicates a pure character before God. Anything less than white skin indicates a corruption of character before God. Black skin, according to Mormon Doctrine, is an indicator of the worst corruption of character before God.”

"...there was a different spirit in Brigham [Young's] journals." Young brought prejudices common in America at the time into the Mormon faith, sociologist Armand Mauss wrote. No longer were men with even a drop of African blood allowed to be ordained to the priesthood, which otherwise was available to virtually all males starting at 12. Blacks could still be members, but couldn't be leaders, serve missions or be married in one of the faith's temples.

Does your definition of "mentally-ill" preclude someone who's telling the truth ?

Let's set aside the fact that this clown cannot possibly know if Mitt Romney has a "racist heart." If he is actually claiming that he can read Romney's innermost thoughts, his mental illness is a given.

But say that he really "knows" this and is "telling the truth."

The amount of obsessive focus it would take to plan and build this bizarre front yard display shows that this guy has an unhealthy fascination with Romney and a sociopathic disregard for his neighbors.

Then let's step aside, enter the real world of adults, and acknowledge that the main problems with Romney are not some kind of theoretical racism he may or may not harbor, but his actual stated policy positions and track record.

Mr Steve “Golden” Showers is the type of individual that probably pops up on the net quite often.

A legitimate question ... especially wanting to link me to MoveOn.org ...

Nice try ...

MoveOn.org was founded to try to get folks distracted from Clinton's impeachment ...

I, on the other hand, was awarded a "Conservative Website of the Day" award for my pro-clinton impeachment site called "ImpeachmentWatch" ...

Do your home work better next time ...

I'm not sure they all do. I believe some are known to have sex with boys. And there may even be rules for such behavior in their scriptures.

If you maintain that your religion is the result of a direct divine revelation, then you can’t very well appeal to historical context to explain away your doctrines.

In the historical context, I believe that Joseph was led less by divine inspiration and more by connivance.

Of course, you and I are free to believe that, but the Mormons are the ones in the pickle. If they say their religion is true, then their god is a racist. If they admit that Joey Smith made it up, then they can explain the racism, but they’re left with a fraud of a religion.

An unfortunate fact of race about Bishop Romney, is that he was issued a race based draft deferment by his religion (they were in charge of issuing their own deferments for the draft board to sign off on).

The Mormon draft deferments could not be given to black Mormons, only to non black Mormons. The idea that a black Mormon served in Vietnam for Mitt, or even died because of it, is a possibility.

Not a single black Mormon was given the Mormon draft deferment, ever.

Actually I see myself as a man that both Generals George Washington and Patton would be proud of, as well as Ronald Reagan ....

Your angst and anger are not personally directed towards me ...

But rather the EXTREME betrayal of genuine Patriots by the likes of the GOP-elites ...

Who, even we speak, are doing everything they can to LOSE this 2012 election ... just as Rush Limbaugh said today ...

Just remember what Einstein said about "insanity" and repeating past mistakes...

I see you live in Washington. I live in California which means that either of us voting for Romney isn't going to change anything.

My plan is to vote for the Green Party candidate. My hope is that the Green Party will get more than 5% of the national vote and will become an official thorn in the side of the Democrats.

Anyone who lives in a Red or toss-up state should hold their noses and vote for Romney. But those of us in hopelessly Blue states should vote Green Party IMHO.

The hope is that the truly demented liberals that think Obama is too conservative will join a viable Green Party and siphon votes away from the Democrats.

It is admittedly a vain hope, but it is better than throwing my vote away on a RINO regardless of his religious affiliations.
